2022 WERRIBEE CENTRALS PREVIEW

By KEL ROWE

In 2021, a thriving juniors pathway saw the Werribee Centrals storm into Division 1 of the VU Polytechnic Senior Women’s Competition.

Glenn Ballard is back coaching the Centurions this year and says that the side’s first taste of top division footy has given them the drive to compete in 2022.

“The team was excited to make Division 1 and were very competitive. The girls are driving to keep improving, and the best way to do that is to play the best teams,” he said.

Ballard’s Centurions finished well in Season 2021, winning five games and landing in fourth place on the competition ladder, and he is keen to see them build on that success.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing the team perform as a whole — we are such a young side, who have now been playing together for 40-odd games or so,” Ballard said.

The youthful side is loaded with talent, but in particular, Ballard flags the efforts of Gabriella Cringasu and Paige Cook as two players to look out for, as they take on the best teams, week in week out.

As the Centurions kick off their 2022 campaign, Ballard’s message to his players is simple — “the time is now.”

Don’t miss their Friday night footy opener against Manor Lakes on April 8.
