2022 WYNDHAMVALE PREVIEW

After a slow start in the early stages of the VU Polytechnic Senior Women’s Competition, Division 2 side Wyndhamvale hit their straps as a group, only for COVID to cut that run of success short.

Despite that, Coach Craig Prior was pleased with his team and their late season form.

“As a side they had just started to play some good footy, with most of the girls in their first year, to get two wins was fantastic,” he said.

In 2022, the Falcons are using that form as motivation to play better footy, as they head into the season ahead.

“Our win against North Sunshine in Round 11 was a highlight for the girls. We want to continue to improve as a side,” said Prior.

In their second year as a consistent group, the women of Wyndhamvale are keen to continue their development and build their on-field connection — but after an interrupted season — are just excited to play footy.

Wyndhamvale will go head-to-head with rivals Parkside in what coach Luke Wenlock has described as a ‘tantalising’ Round 1 clash.

Wenlock and the Falcons are excited at the possibility of an uninterrupted season, and it all starts this Saturday when their campaign for a Division 2 premiership begins.

“We are very excited about the Parkside match-up in Round 1,” he said.

“Being scheduled as their home game and then having that reversed for the second year in a row is tantalising.

“We have been fantastic rivals for a while now.  Fluffy (Chris Muratore) always has them ready to go. (It will be a) great test in Round 1.”

Wyndhamvale ended the last year’s shortened season as the minor premiers, with the club hoping to pick up from where the left off in 2022.

“In 2022 we will be a much bigger more aggressive side than we have been,” Wenlock said.

“It’s a very exciting season to look forward to this year.  The competition looks to be the best it’s been for years.”
