WFNL APPOINTS 2026 JUNIOR INTERLEAGUE COACHES
The WFNL is delighted to announce the appointment of the following coaches for its 2026 Junior Interleague sides:
Walid Kaddour (U15 Boys Div 1)
Damien Zanic (U15 Boys Div 2)
Leanne Meyer (U15 Girls)
Michael Motta (U14 Boys Div 1)
Brad Whitehead (U14 Boys Div 2)
Ollie D’Rozario (U14 Girls)
Darren Ryan (U13 Boys Div 1)
Dan Neave (U13 Boys Div 2)
Sienna Varhelyi (U13 Girls)
Dom Lammardo, WFNL Junior Football Manager congratulated all nine coaches on their appointments.
“We are really pleased to welcome back Walid, Leanne, Michael, Ollie, Darren and Dan as head coaches again. We are thrilled that Brad will also step up to a head coach role after being an assistant coach in our Under 13 Boys program this year” he said.
“We have also brought in two new coaches in Damien Zanic and Sienna Varhelyi. Damien is a highly experienced & credentialed coach having coached recently at local level, as well as having spent significant time in AFL, VFL and Under 18s Talent League environments in coaching & development roles. Sienna is an emerging young coach in the WFNL ranks, being one of the nominees for the 2025 Up & Coming coach of the year and taking part in the 2024 BHP Female Coaching Academy. Sienna’s experience as both a leader on and off the field, as well as her passion about the growth of girls’ football and developing young female talent will be a great asset in our program and build off the great work of those who have come before her. We look forward to working with both Damien and Sienna and supporting them in driving their programs in 2026”
“I’d also like to acknowledge outgoing coaches Daniel Neville, Amie Bracken and Connor Grech. Daniel had coached Interleague for 3 years starting with the U13A Boys in 2023 and continuing with the U14A Boys and U15A Boys. Having been undefeated in those three years is a testament to not only the talent available in that age group but also Daniel’s ability to get that talent on one page and work hard together as a group to achieve those results. Amie was our inaugural U13 Girls coach in 2024, and then our inaugural U14 Girls coach in 2025. Having a coach of Amie’s calibre available made the decision to introduce the U13 Girls a year earlier than expected. In a tough year in 2025, where our U14 Girls played in a strong Division 1, Amie’s coaching continued to inspire and focus on positives which saw the girls enjoy their experience despite results. That is a sign of a great coach. Connor having been an Assistant Coach for multiple years in the Under 15 Boys Div 2, took on the head coach role this year. Arguably one of the harder jobs, as it’s the last year of Junior Interleague, and everyone wants to be in the Div 1 side, Connor brought everyone together, and with that, great results came. Daniel, Amie and Connor will be missed in our program, and we wish them best as they continue their coaching endeavours”
The Western Football Netball League is still seeking expressions of interest for Assistant Coaches for our Under 14 Boys Div 2 and Under 15 Boys Div 2 sides.
Expressions of Interest currently being sought may be accepted from coaches currently engaged at Club level, in other representative teams, in Coates Talent League, other leagues or school programs if their credentials are well developed.
The roles may also suit current senior footballers who are looking to develop their coaching skills. It is anticipated that most training sessions from February to June will be held on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday night depending on ground and coach availability.
Expressions of Interest detailing coaching experience and personal details (no more than two pages) should be sent to the WFNL by COB Monday 12th January, 2026.
