By KEL ROWE

Victoria University Polytechnic Senior Women’s Division 1 Minor Premiers Caroline Springs and Spotswood started the finals weekend with a bang, with the Wolves upsetting Lakers in a 23-point victory.

Setting the intensity from the start, both sides returning fire and keeping the scores close. But in the third quarter it was Spotswood who put their foot down, running away with a big win, booking their spot in the Division 1 Grand Final on September 3.

Kerrie Clarke and Maddison Cooper stood up for the Wolves, each kicking three goals, matched only by CJ Pretty who registered three for Caroline Springs.

Joudy Joud, Gracie Lamers and Caroline Hardeman all starred for Spotswood, while it was Lakers duo Alex O’Shea and Alisha Fowler setting the tone for their side.

Werribee Centrals kept its finals dream alive with a win over Manor Lakes in first Semi Final by 45-points.

The Storm side were unable to contend with the dynamic footy, with Werribee Centrals leading at every break.

Samantha Kloet and Paige Cook both kicked three majors for Werribee Centrals, while Sarah Tabone and Julia Nash also played important roles.

Caroline Springs will have a second chance to earn their spot in the Division 1 decider in Sunday’s Preliminary Final against challengers Werribee Centrals.

In Division 2, rivals Point Cook Centrals and West Footscray went head-to-head in a tough contest, with the Sharks overcoming a half-time deficit to seal their spot in the Division 2 Grand Final.

The Roosters jumped the Sharks in first half, using their run and carry to lock the ball into the scoring 50 and make the most of their time in front of goals.

Following the half-time break, the Sharks regained their composure, and the lead, to close out the game with a 20-point victory.

The Sharks scored their forward 50 entries via the run of Leah Moss, whose contributions through the middle saw Sharni Currie and Jen Plumb each kick two goals.

Tania Anthony was dangerous up forward for West Footscray, and was well supported by Stacey Gardiner, Eliza Terrey and Hazel McCafferty.

Wyndhamvale struck early in their Division 2 Semi Final against Caroline Springs, but were unable to maintain momentum, with the Lakers running away with a 70-point win — keeping their premiership dream alive.

Aeyshah Lowe and Jasmine Kincaid were instrumental on the scoreboard for the Lakers, kicking three and two goals respectively.

With Point Cook Centrals headed straight to the big dance, West Footscray will host Caroline Springs in the Division 2 Preliminary on Sunday.
