WRFL ANNOUNCE NEW CEO DAVID JENNINGS

Breaking News:

The WRFL Board is both pleased and excited to announce the appointment of DAVID JENNINGS as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Jennings comes to the WRFL with a wealth of experience in community sports management.  For the past six years, he has served as General Manager of Operations of the Southern Football Netball League.  Previous to that, his diverse roles in community sports management have included stints as State Manager of NRL Touch Football in Victoria; Club Development Manager with AFL Northern Territory; CEO of the St Mary’s Football, Sporting and Social Club; and Sport and Recreation management roles with YMCA Victoria.

His professional qualifications include a Bachelor of Business (2005) and a Master of Sports Business (2008).

Relevant to his new role as WRFL CEO, he has a wide understanding of the Melbourne metro community Football and Netball landscape and the challenges that go with the development and management of those sports; and a strong focus on providing opportunities for participation and ongoing development of Clubs, players and volunteers.

Following confirmation yesterday of his appointment, Jennings said:

“I am honoured to be appointed to the role of CEO at the Western Region Football League. The WRFL has a strong brand and proud history with great Clubs.  The competition is very strong with 34 Member Clubs and the growth of women’s football and netball is exciting.  I thank the Board for the opportunity and look forward to working with staff, Member Clubs and all the stakeholders in the Western region.  I am excited by the challenge of continuing to grow, develop and evolve the League”.

Speaking at the formal announcement today, WRFL President Meredith Angwin said:

“I am pleased to announce that David Jennings has accepted our offer of the WRFL CEO position.   He stood out in a highly competitive field of applicants and enjoyed the unanimous support of the interview committee and of the whole WRFL Board. He is excited about joining our League and will start officially on Monday, June 26th after he finishes his tenure with the Southern Football Netball League.  Advice will follow on arrangements to connect him personally with club officials and commercial partners at the earliest opportunity.”
