2023 WRFL NETBALL GRAND FINALS PREVIEW

DIVISION 1 – PCCSC BULL SHARKS v BRAYBROOK WHITTEN

Court 2 – 8:50pm

2023 Head-to-Head: PCCSC Bull Sharks 2 – 1 Braybrook Whitten

Last time they met: Round 12 – PCCSC Bull Sharks 41 def. 34 Braybrook Whitten

Players to look out for: For the Sharks, it’s hard to go past 2022 WRFL Division 1 Best & Fairest & Leading Goal Shooter Rebecca Hicks, who has once again shot well over 500 goals with incredibly high shooting accuracy. Meanwhile on the Brookers team, it will be defensive player Alexandra Keating who will look to nullify Rebecca’s influence on the game, which could be the recipe for success for her team.

DIVISION 2 – LAKERS 2 v BRAYBROOK HAWKINS

Court 2 – 7:40pm

2023 Head-to-Head: Lakers 2 – 1 Braybrook Hawkins

Last time they met: Semi-Final 2 – Lakers 2 32 def. 28 Braybrook Hawkins

Players to look out for: This game may very well be decided by which team’s attack takes advantage of their opportunities, with Lakers 2 shooter Jaimie Ritchie and Braybrook Hawkins shooter Tiarnah Lloyd both having shot over 400 goals this season.

DIVISION 3 – LAVERTON MAGPIES v SPOTSWOOD BLACK

Court 3 – 8:50pm

2023 Head-to-Head: Laverton Magpies 1 – 1 draw – 0 Spotswood Black

Last time they met: Round 15 – Laverton Magpies 25 def. 16 Spotswood Black

Players to look out for: Spotswood Black’s midcourter Mia Elkington will look to continue her good form as her team’s key playmaker and will be one the Magpies need to stop. Brittany Christy’s resolute defending for Laverton cannot be underestimated, and Spotswood’s attacking third will need to make every opportunity count.

DIVISION 4 – GLEN ORDEN BLUE v SUNSHINE KANGAROOS

Court 2– 6:30pm

2023 Head-to-Head: Glen Orden Blue 1 – 1 Sunshine Kangaroos

Last time they met: Round 16 – Sunshine Kangaroos 31 def. 21 Glen Orden Blue

Players to look out for: With the two of the best shooters in the Division, it may just be who scores more out of Sunshine’s Allanah Coward, and Glen Orden’s Zoe Piccolo that determines the result.

DIVISION 5 – LAVERTON BLACK v POINT COOK

Court 3– 7.40pm

2023 Head-to-Head: Laverton Black 2 – 0 Point Cook

Last time they met: Round 8 – Laverton Black 29 def. 15 Point Cook

Players to look out for: In what could be the key matchup of the game, Laverton Black defender Kaitlin Banksy leads the stingiest defence in the competition, and her likely opponent Point Cook deadeye shooter Isabella Te Paa has played a key part in her side’s fairytale run to the Grand Final.

DIVISION 6 – PCCSC MAKO SHARKS v LAVERTON WHITE

Court 3 – 6.30pm

2023 Head-to-Head: PCCSC Mako Sharks 3 – 1 Laverton White

Last time they met: Semi-Final 2 – PCCSC Mako Sharks 31 def. 15 Laverton White

Players to look out for: For the Mako Sharks, defender Bronte Hermansson is the one to nullify with her ability to read the play and stop attacking plays from opposition. Laverton White’s shooter Sophie Tauri will need to make most of her opportunities to ensure a victory like she did in Round 9 against the Mako Sharks.

All games will be held at the Victoria University Community Sports Stadium at Whitten Oval. Spectator seating and standing areas will be on Court 1 for the Court 2 games, and Court 4 for the Court 3 games. As has been the case all season, there is a small entry fee ($2.20) for those entering the stadium charged by VU Sport and it can be paid via cash or card.
