ROOSTERS REBOUND, SUNS MOVE TO TOP

Round 3 of the St Vincent’s Private Hospital Werribee Senior Women’s competition saw three games played on Saturday, with some big game milestones and a grand final rematch marking the weekend.
The round kicked off with a tight tussle between Caroline Springs and Yarraville, with the home side Lakers claiming a 21-point victory at the final siren.
The match saw new Eagles recruit Ashleigh Guest mark her 200th career game, but the Lakers led by Dijana Vasilevska and Jacinta Kondis (four goals), were too much for the visitors, to make it a perfect celebration.
Phoebe McWilliams kicked two majors for the Eagles with teammate Maggie Logan earning best on ground honours.
The Suns locked in a resounding 149-point win over Laverton, their first in front of a home crowd at Goddard Street Reserve, and in doing so finished the round on top of the ladder.
Suns vice-captain Sharni Currie was prolific in front of goals, booting five majors and was well supported by the efforts of her teammate Jasmine Biggs with two goals.
Ashleigh Pearson and Breannen Bingham worked hard to be the best performers for the Magpies.
To complete the weekend, West Footscray and Wyndhamvale met for the first time since their nail-biting 2023 grand final encounter.
In the end it was again the Roosters who came out on top, repelled the Falcons’ persistent forward 50 entries while capitalising in front of goal to secure a 23-point victory.
Romina Martiniello was strong in West Footscray’s midfield, while Emma Farrugia celebrated her 50th game with a commanding performance in defence.
Chloe Prior kicked the lone goal for Wyndhamvale and was named the Falcons’ best alongside Ava Strathairn.
