SUNSHINE KEEP HEAT ON, SUNS SALUTE AFTER SIREN

Round 4 of the Division 2 season saw six games played with the top sides continuing strong runs, while a pair of teams triumphed for the second time this year.

Suns were one club to get win number two for the season as they defeated North Footscray by five points in a thrilling shootout at Hansen Reserve.

John Tomelty bagged his fourth goal after the siren to give the Suns victory on a day where there was a total 32 majors kicked.

Jesse Shell matched Tomelty’s output with four goals while nine came from the boot of North Footscray’s Matt Serafin whose brilliant performance was in vain.

The Devils led by 13 points at quarter time, but the Suns held the ascendency at every other change securing victory 16.16 (112) to 16.11 (107).

The Suns will eye a second straight win when they head to Robert Bruce Reserve to face Albanvale next, while North Footscray are away to Tarneit.

The Titans had another tough day in Round 4 going down to Sunshine by 200 points.

Tarneit were best served by Liam Meyrich but the day belonged to a couple of Kangaroos forwards – Nathan Carroll kicked nine goals for the second straight week, however he was out done by Daniel Castellano who bagged 10 majors in the rout.

Second placed Sunshine host third placed Newport this coming weekend in what shapes to be the match of the round.

Newport remained perfect in 2024 with a 20.16 (136) to 11.5 (71) victory over Sunshine Heights at Langshaws Reserve.

The Panthers jumped out of the blocks with their best quarter of the game before the Dragons hit back in the second winning the term with four goals.

However, the home team put the foot down after the break kicking 11 second half goals to run out 65-point victors.

Five players kicked multiple goals for the Newport including captain Abdul Jawad who contributed three in a best on ground performance.

Jawad’s oppositive number James Vella was the top performer for Sunshine Heights who get no relief with another stern test awaiting them against league leaders Albion.

The Cats demolished North Sunshine at JR Parsons Reserve in Round 4 to remain undefeated at the top of the table.

Albion were far too good against the bottom placed side tallying 42 goals the with Jesse Cavanagh booting 14, the most by any player in a Division 2 game this season.

Caleb McPherson was named best for the Cats with a classy display that included four majors.

The Roadrunners return to Dempster Park in Round 5 to face Laverton who return from a week off.

Wyndhamvale was the third team to take its points tally to 16 on the weekend, courtesy of a 96-point triumph over Albanvale.

The Falcons led by Oliver Brett and Cameron Morrison, who contributed three goals, stretched their advantage at every change at Wyndhamvale South Reserve to win 15.18 (114) to 1.7 (13).

Kieran Ryall was the best performer for the Cobras for the second week running.

Wyndhamvale now head to Rockbank to take on Western Rams who were involved in another high scoring affair on the weekend, this time against West Footscray.

The Roosters were the ones to take the honours recording their second win of the campaign with a 23.19 (157) to 1.8 (86) result at Shorten Reserve.

The hosts had seven players kick multiple goals with the Matthew Turcinovich topping the list with five.

For the Rams, Jarry Underwood had another good day in front of goal as he and Tyson Szkudlarski each snared four majors.

West Footscray are at home again this weekend with Braybrook visiting in a clash of fifth versus sixth.
