SPURS SNEAK BY EAGLES, TOP THREE WIN BIG

Back on the field after the long weekend break, Round 9 of the St Vincent’s Private Hospital Werribee Senior Women’s competition was marked by several comprehensive wins and a tightly contested match between cross-town rivals.
Werribee Centrals continued their run of home ground wins on Friday night, defending the Galvin Park fortress with a whopping 152-point drubbing of Laverton.
The match saw the Centurions pile on the goals, with Larissa Renaut bagging a huge 14 majors in a best on ground performance.
Lauren Basto and Lauren Fisher were also named in for the home side whilst for the Magpies Ashleigh Pearson and Nikki Eustace were recognised for their efforts.
On Saturday morning, North Sunshine hosted the Suns at Dempster Park, with the visitors claiming a 138-point win.
Road Runners’ Zoe Doherty and Amy Duggan performed well under the pressure of the Suns’ strong play to be named the best for their side.
For the Suns Emily Dunstan celebrated her 100-game milestone with two goals, whilst teammates Rachel Collisson and Ally Evans among the top performers.
At Shorten Reserve, West Footscray took on Caroline Springs with the Lakers locking in a strong 93-point victory.
Jacinta Kondis maintained her position at the top of the goal kicking leaderboard bagging five majors, and was well supported by Nyomi Stowers and Jordin Williamson.
Krystyn Raymundo kicked the lone goal for the Roosters, earning best on honours alongside on-baller Romina Martiniello.
To round out the weekend, Yarraville Seddon took on Parkside Spurs in an absolute nailbiter, with the Spurs overcoming the Eagles at the final siren by just two points.
The lead changed at every break, with the two sides locked at 29-points all coming into the final quarter.
Jemma Stokes and Rita Ceravolo were the star performers for the Spurs, whilst teammate Deena Basset kicked two majors in her first game of the year.
Phoebe McWilliams and Rosie Ronan-Yates were named in best for the Eagles with the pair contributing three of their team’s five goals.
