FALCONS CEMENT THIRD SPOT, DRAGONS CLAIM SECOND WIN
Wyndhamvale has reaffirmed its standing as the third best team in Division 2 Senior Men after defeating Newport by 22 points in Round 11.
The Falcons are now eight points clear of the Panthers following Saturday’s 13.5 (83) to 8.13 (61) result at Bryan Martyn Oval.
A four-goal to none second quarter was ultimately the difference as the visitors maintained their halftime margin for the remainder of the match.
Aaron Scarborough was again terrific for the Falcons while top goal kicker Matthew Paul contributed three majors.
Wyndhamvale now host league leaders Albion, while Newport travel to Goddard Street Reserve to face the fifth placed Suns.
The Suns claimed a comfortable away victory over neighbouring rivals Tarneit, in their latest outing.
The visitors led from start to finish and had four players end the day with three goals, in the 16.8 (104) to 3.7 (25) win.
Brandon Mifsud kicked all three majors for the Titans, while Benjamin Arabit and Zach Thornton again performed strongly.
Tarneit’s next assignment is a trip to Robert Bruce Reserve to face Albanvale.
The Cobras were no match for Sunshine on Saturday with the home team claiming victory by 104 points.
The visitors battled hard for a quarter and half but, couldn’t maintain their effort as the Kangaroos pulled away on the back of strong showings from Nick McKay and Nathan Caroll (six goals).
For the Cobras, Reece Field continued his goal kicking form with four majors while Nathan Calleja was his side’s best.
Sunshine is off to Rockbank next to face the Western Rams who fell to Sunshine Heights in Round 11.
It was the Dragons who registered their second win of the season downing the Rams 12.13 (85) to 10.4 (64) at Ainsworth Reserve.
The home team overturned a seven-point deficit at the main break with a five-goal to one third term giving the hosts a game winning 21-point advantage.
Sunshine Heights captain James Vella was outstanding with four goals in a best on ground performance.
Tyler Lewis led the charge for the Rams while Jarryd Underwood added to his goal tally with three majors.
Sunshine Heights are away to Braybrook this coming weekend.
Five goal hauls by Matthew Condo and Ricky Howell were some of the highlights for Braybrook in a 165-point victory over North Sunshine on Saturday.
