Round 13 of the St Vincent’s Private Hospital Werribee Senior Women’s competition saw some heavily contested footy in tough conditions and a shift in the top four ladder positions.
A Friday night fixture between Werribee Centrals and Wyndhamvale at Galvin Park kicked off proceedings with the Centurions securing a 77-point win.
Larissa Renaut (seven goals) and Jessica Spall (three) were prolific in front of goals for the home side, while Ava Strathairn and Mariah Burton were the Falcons’ best, the latter kicking her team’s lone major.
With Friday night’s match escaping the worst of the weather, cold and windy conditions saw the match between Caroline Springs and Suns come down to a single point.
No majors were kicked by either side, but at the final siren the Suns emerged victorious away from home, avenging a 46-point loss against the Lakers in Round 4 to replace the hosts in second spot on the ladder.
The Saturday morning match-up was largely played between the arcs, with both teams bringing a heavy contest.
Ally Evans and Emily Evans starred for the Suns, whilst Ashlee Wallis and Emma Meissner were best for the Lakers.
Also on Saturday morning, Parkside travelled west to Laverton Park where they beat the Magpies by 83 points.
Magan Ristic-Keena and Ruth Walker battled gallantly for the Pies, whilst Nadine Lampard and Rita Ceravolo were named amongst the best for the visiting side.
Meanwhile, Spurs captain Aleisha Casley was dangerous in front of goal bagging five majors for the day, as her side moved into third position after the Suns downed Caroline Springs.
To round out the weekend, suburban rivals West Footscray and Yarraville Seddon went head-to-head at Shorten Reserve, with the Eagles coming out on top by 10 points in the battle of the birds.
Both sides were hard at the footy; with Kaila Ducret and Bo Crabtree working hard for the Roosters, whilst Ruby Cashmore and Rosie Ronan-Yates (two goals) were the Eagles’ top performers.
With three rounds left of the home and away season, the stage is set for some big battles as the competition head towards finals.
