Round 7 saw plenty of competitive footy on show and the women and girls of the St Vincent’s Private Hospital Werribee Senior Women’s Competition support the #wearitred campaign.
Teams donned two red armbands — one in protest of cuts and defunding to crucial government bodies and gender-based violence prevention programs, and one to honour the 31 women who have been killed this year due to gender-based violence.
Opening the day of footy, Parkside Spurs took on Point Cook Centrals at Merv Hughes Oval, with the hosts overcoming the Sharks by 30 points to claim their fourth straight win.
Rita Ceravolo and Natalie Pearce were dominant through the middle for the Spurs, whilst Samara Arena kicked three majors for the home side.
Charli Sette and Jenna Hurring impressed for the Sharks, whilst teammate Keshena Kinkaid registered three goals in a strong showing inside 50.
North Sunshine welcomed Wyndhamvale to Dempster Park, with the Falcons executing a 143-point win over the home team.
Mariah Burton and Ashlynne Hopper starred for the Falcons, with Hopper bagging a massive 10 goals for the day.
Roadrunners Liz Mercieca and Andrea Campos stood tall against tough opposition, being named in the best for their efforts.
Despite a remarkable performance against the reigning premiers at Skinner Reserve, a fourth-quarter lapse in defensive structure saw West Footscray land their second draw in just three games.
The Roosters had a strong start against Werribee Centrals, holding a firm lead for much of the match thanks to the efforts of Laura Littlepage and Janelle Sammut who added three goals to her season tally.
But the visitors came home strong kicking four last quarters goals, with Lonet Bugeja clinical inside 50 for the Centurions while also being well supported by the hard running of teammate Paige Cook, with both named amongst the best for their side.
Rounding out the day, Yarraville Seddon went head-to-head with the Suns in a twilight game on Yarraville Oval, with the home side claiming a 50-point win.
Emily Evans and Jen Plumb worked hard for the Suns, but it was the efforts of Akec Makur Chuot and Stacey Ryan, along with six goals from Phoebe McWilliams, that saw the result go in favour of the Eagles.
