RAMS GET SECOND WIN, TOP SIDES BOOST PERCENTAGE

The Western Rams have claimed their second win of the Division 2 season downing Laverton by 14 points in Round 9.

Returning from a King’s Birthday bye, the Rams started well at Ian Cowie Recreation Reserve establishing an early buffer with a four goal to two opening term.

Laverton would level scores twice during the second quarter and then hit the lead briefly in the third term, however the home team responded on each occasion.

With two quick goals to end the third quarter the Rams took a 14-point advantage into the last, a margin they held until the final siren, triumphing 9.10 (64) to 7.8 (50).

Tyler Lewis was again brilliant for the Rams with another best on ground outing including a team-high three goals.

Meanwhile for Laverton, James Sadler was the top performer and leading goal kicker with four majors.

Suns put some breathing space between them and the chasing pack thanks to a 11.13 (79) to 8.12 (60) victory over Braybrook.

The Brookers were ahead at both quarter-time and halftime, but the Suns stormed to the lead after the resumption with an eight goal to zero third term, flipping an 18-point deficit into a 34-point lead for the home team.

The performances of Michael Ryan and Matthew Wright were crucial for the Suns in the comeback win, while Jacob Styles was Braybrook’s best after kicking a game-high four four goals.

North Footscray’s Matt Serafin kicked seven goals for the second time this season to lead his side to a comprehensive 81-point victory over Sunshine Heights.

The home team produced another consistent four quarter performance at Hansen Reserve with Jarrod Spry and Kyle Rodgers also important in the 17.15 (117) to 5.6 (36) win.

On a tough day for Sunshine Heights one positive was the return of Harley Armstrong-Weston wearing Dragons colours, the TIV Division 1 premiership ruckman making his first appearance of the season having overcome a knee injury that ruled him out for the first eight rounds.

Wyndhamvale claimed another comfortable win in Round 9 defeating Albanvale 19.15 (129) to 6.4 (40).

Jack Tessari starred while Lewis Stanton (seven goals) and Brock Jones (four goals) contributed half the score for the Falcons.

Jack Burgess was the only multiple goal kicker for the Cobras in what was his team’s third loss of the year.

West Footscray posted their sixth win and fourth at home this season with another dominant showing at Skinner Reserve, this time against Tarneit.

Matthew Turcinovich booted a season-best seven goals while Jain Haines added four in a best on ground performance in the 29.20 (194) to 3.4 (22) triumph.

Tarneit was best served by Paul Ripari and Connor Le Noury.
