SUNS MOVE UP, ROOSTERS HOLD OFF DRAGONS

West Footscray held off a fast-finishing Sunshine Heights to claim a five-point win in Round 12 of the Division 2 Men’s season.

The visiting Roosters lead early at Ainsworth Reserve on the back of a five goal to one opening quarter before the Dragons reduced the margin from 23 points to five points at the main break.

With Chris Long and Jai Haines leading the charge, West Footscray restored their 23-point advantage in the third, but the hosts would have the scoring end in the last.

Jackson Viola and Wilson Hylton both bagged their fourth goals of the day in the final quarter, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Roosters secured their fifth straight win 11.9 (75) to 10.10 (70).

Thomas Stelluto enjoyed his best day in front of goal since the opening rounds of the season with four majors for the visitors.

Suns have replaced Albanvale in fourth place courtesy of a 31-point win over the Cobras at Goddard Street Reserve.

Despite kicking 2.7 in the opening quarter the Suns established an early buffer before extending their lead with four straight goals in the second term as Brayden Schibeci and Josh Foster starred.

Albanvale finally got some offensive reward in the third quarter, but Suns matched their three goals to all but secure the four points with a quarter to play.

The 10.12 (72) to 4.7 (31) defeat for Albanvale was their third loss in four weeks, as they now prepare to host Braybrook.

Wyndhamvale rebounded from its first loss of the season with a comfortable 19.10 (124) to 4.4 (28) triumph at Laverton.

With Cameron Morrison and Kai Capovilla brilliant early the league leaders were well in control at the main break.

The Falcons then dominated the final two quarters added nine goals to one in the second half as Lewis Stanton finished with six majors for the afternoon.

Ryley McGaw also contributed three goals as did James Sadler for Laverton.

North Foostcray backed up its Round 11 win over Wyndhamvale by cruising to a 27.18 (180) to 8.10 (58) victory against the Western Rams.

Matthew Serafin continued his great form with a season-high 10 goals to be one of six multiple goal kickers for the Devils.

Jack Varono and Jarrod Spry also performed strongly for the home team, while William Markovski and Tyler Lewis battled tirelessly for the Rams.

Season-best goal tallies from Stephen Mihelakos-James (eight) and Matthew Condo (five) helped Braybrook to a huge win at home over Tarneit.

The Brookers dominated from the outset with Jayden Danaher and Aidan O’Rafferty other key contributors in the 28.28 (196) to 4.10 (34) result.

Tarneit was best served by Kai Wright and Jye Manic.
