A CENTURY FOR STANTON IN SEASON ‘25

Wyndhamvale forward Lewis Stanton wrote his name into the Western Football Netball League history books kicking his 100th goal of the Division 2 Senior Men’s season in Round 16.

Stanton needed four goals in his club’s match against West Footscray at Skinner Reserve to reach the milestone and did so by converting a set shot late in the first quarter.

He eventually finished the day with seven majors as the Falcons claimed a 19-point win.

It was his eighth haul of seven or more goals this season, taking his tally to 103 goals from 16 games.

It’s a bit crazy, it’s still not settled in,” he said.

“The club has posted the video and all that stuff.

“In a few weeks, maybe once the season finishes I will reflect on it a bit more.

“I’s a good feeling and a good thing to have when I hang up the boots.”

Going into the game Stanton said he tried not to think about it too much.

After securing his century Stanton was embraced by teammates and Wyndhamvale clubmates who stormed the field to join in the celebrations.

“I didn’t know how to feel when I kicked it,” he said.

“The boys were going pretty nuts. I had missed one and they started to jump on the field.

“A couple of minutes later I kicked it.

“Once I kicked it there was a bit of relief.”

Adding to the occasion was his dad being in attendance after he flew over from the Perth to watch his son’s accomplishment.

Stanton is one of only a handful of players to have kicked 100 goals across football in Victoria this season.

He is also the second player in as many years to reach the mark in the WFNL Division 2 competition after Nathan Carroll achieved the feat for Sunshine 12 months ago.

Stanton is in his first season at Wyndhamvale after playing with Yarraville Seddon last year.

He’s arguably been the recruit of the season having played a starring role for the Falcons who can all but sew up the minor premiership with victory over Braybrook in Round 17.
