Women’s Grand Final Match Day Incident
The League acknowledges an incident reported in the Match Day Report during the Senior Women’s Grand Final between Caroline Springs and Yarraville Seddon Eagles, held at Donald McLean Reserve on Saturday 6 September 2025.
The incident was alleged to have occurred approximately 17–18 minutes into the final quarter, as a Yarraville Seddon Eagles player retrieved the ball following a behind. Following a timely and thorough investigation, including a detailed review of available video footage, the player is observed collecting the ball and turning toward the group. However, there is no visual evidence of any individual spitting, and no witnesses in the immediate vicinity – including the WFNL Goal Umpire – that observed the alleged act. Accordingly, the allegation could not be substantiated.
The League treats all such matters with the utmost seriousness. Respectful behaviour is a non-negotiable standard at all community sporting events. Heckling, abuse, or any form of antisocial behaviour is entirely incompatible with the values of community football.
The League commends both the Yarraville Seddon Eagles and Caroline Springs Football Club for their professionalism and constructive engagement throughout the investigation. Both are highly respected Member Clubs that continue to demonstrate leadership and integrity, including through their commitment to the growth and support of Women’s and Girls’ programs.
The League would also like to thank the player involved for bringing the matter to our attention. We acknowledge the courage it takes to speak up in the spirit of fairness and accountability, and we wish them all the best in their continued involvement in the game.
Finally, we remind all members of the football community to uphold respectful communication at all times – including on social media. Community football thrives on inclusion, fairness, and mutual respect, both on and off the field.
