FORMER BULLDOG BURTON TO MAKE AFL DEBUT

By Evan Tudor

Tomorrow night’s Anzac Day Eve clash between Richmond and Melbourne at the MCG will have an added WFNL flavour, with Point Cook’s Tom Burton set to make his AFL debut for the Tigers.

Burton was signed by the yellow and black as a Supplemental Selection Period (SSP) pick after spending the 2026 pre-season at Punt Road.

Burton has featured in all three of the Tigers’ VFL matches to start the year, with two wins and one loss positioning them sixth on the table.

He’s performed strongly in their contests against Southport, Coburg and St Kilda, picking up 17, 21, and 15 disposals respectively.

Burton has also started his year well in front of the big sticks, securing one major against Southport and three against the Saints.

In his WFNL career, Burton has played 117 games with Point Cook, with 63 goals and 54 best-on-ground appearances to boast. He last featured for the Bulldogs in the 2024 Under 18 Division 1 grand final.

In his final underage campaign Burton gained valuable football experience in the AFL Talent League, captaining the Western Jets last season where he averaged 30 touches a game.

He also represented Vic Metro in the 2025 AFL U18 Championships before kickstarting his 2026 football season with Richmond’s VFL side.

Burton will make his AFL debut tomorrow night alongside Sam Cumming.
