23RD PLAYERS NAMED FOR FIRST TIME IN 2026
For the first time this season, clubs in the WFNL’s senior men’s football competitions have the opportunity to select and field a 23rd player on Saturday 2nd May.
The 23rd player rule allows for players who turn 19 this year, or who are aged younger, to feature on their club’s respective senior team if they haven’t contested more than three senior matches already.
First introduced in 2020 and implemented into WFNL playing conditions in 2021, the 23rd player rule allows for young and upcoming talents to shine at the highest level of football in the WFNL.
Sixteen clubs across TIV Division 1 and Division 2 have elected a 23rd player to feature in their side’s line-up this weekend.
Round 4 of the WFNL season marks the first time the 23rd player rules comes into effect this year, with more opportunities to arise later in the season.
