SENIOR WOMEN: ROUND 3 REPORT

Kel Rowe recaps Round 3 of the season in the St Vincent’s Private Hospital Werribee Senior Women’s competition.

Werribee Centrals def Yarraville Seddon

The Friday night fixture saw a 2025 finals rematch play out, with Werribee Centrals claiming their retribution in a comfortable 54-point win over Yarraville Seddon.

The result seeing the Centurions continue their strong stat to the year with captain Lauren Basto and ruck Julia Nash leading the way for their side, with the latter contributing to the score with a major of her own.

Whilst the Eagles are still looking to secure a first settling win of the season, the efforts of Pippa Nolan and Liz Moore, supported by skipper Rachel Culvenor, were impressive on a tough night out West.

Laverton def Point Cook Centrals

A fast start from Point Cook Centrals saw the Sharks get the jump on the Magpies, holding a two-goal lead at the first break. Laverton hit back after quarter time and made short work of reeling in the early deficit, turning the tables on their visitors to run out 34-point victors.

Laverton’s Sina Mason was damaging through the midfield and also contributed a goal in a best on ground performance, whilst teammate Molly Pianta starred in attacking kicking five goals to help seal the win. Chloe Elkington and Emma Smart were the standouts for Point Cook Centrals, with the latter nabbing two goals for her side.

Parkside def Suns

Parkside had to work hard for their 51-point victory on home turf despite what the final score read. The visiting Suns challenged the top side with some strong, contested footy and made it difficult for the hosts to play a free-flowing style of footy.

The match marked 50 games for Spurs skipper Jess Byrnes and saw another strong performance from her young teammate Charlie Lilja, who kicked four majors and was named best on for the home team. Suns player and Western Jets talent Bonnie Lea Brown stood up in first match for the season and was rewarded for her efforts with a best on nod also.

West Footscray def North Footscray

A new chapter in the North vs West Footscray suburban rivalry was written on Saturday morning, with the Devils’ inaugural Women’s side taking on the Roosters at Skinner Reserve. Layla Dawkins was superb for the home side in a comfortable victory and was well supported by 50-gamer Bec Douglass and Janelle Sammut, who bagged a game-high six goals.

North Footscray battled for four quarters, but were unable to penetrate the Roosters’ back 50, with Bek Saward and Shanaye Benbow working hard under pressure in defense.

Caroline Springs def by Wyndhamvale

In the other big win of the weekend Wyndamvale secured a 141-point drubbing of Caroline Springs, bouncing back from a heavy loss to Parkside Spurs the previous week. Wyndhamvale found scoring dominance through new Falcons Jessie Spall and Larissa Renaut, both hit the scoreboard with regularity for seven goals each.

Hayley Herring and Western Jets product Rylee Driscoll were the top contributors for the Lakers, with Holly Sutton kicking the lone major for the home side.

Goal kicking race

The big individual scores kicked across the weekend has seen the leading goal kicker race for 2026 start to take shape —  Janelle Sammut (West Footscray) 10, Jessie Spall (Wyndhamvale) 9, Molly Pianta (Laverton) 8, Larissa Renaut(Wyndhamvale) 8, Emily Gillespie (West Footscray) 8 — the top five names after all booting a bag in Round 3.
