TIV DIVISION 1 MEN: ROUND 5 REPORT

Spotswood def by Parkside

Parkside continued its good start to the season with a convincing 45-point victory over Spotswood, using a strong second half to break the game open in an entertaining clash.

The visitors made a fast start, kicking five first quarter goals to establish a 20-point lead and immediately put Spotswood under pressure. The Woodsmen responded strongly in the second term, tightening up defensively and finding scoreboard impact to cut the margin back to just 10 points at halftime.

However, Parkside regained control after the main break with a dominant third quarter performance. Their midfield lifted around the contest, while their forwards capitalised on repeat inside 50 entries to extend the lead beyond five goals by the final change.

Parkside maintained their momentum in the last quarter, adding another five goals to secure an impressive 18.13 (121) to 12.4 (76) victory. Tom Condon starred up forward with a season best five goals and Zachary Morris added four in a dangerous attacking partnership while Deagan Madden again starred in the ruck and across the ground.

For Spotswood, Jackson Williams was the home team’s top performer with Charlie Barnes, Michael Szulc and Harley Walshe each finished with two goals.


Hoppers Crossing def by Caroline Springs

Caroline Springs has produced another dominant display, overpowering Hoppers Crossing by 88 points after an explosive second quarter blitz set up the victory.

The opening term was an entertaining shootout, with both sides moving the ball freely and trading goals throughout. Hoppers Crossing held their own early, trailing by just three points at quarter time after strong contributions from Riley Fisher and Ryan Kitchen.

The game turned dramatically in the second quarter as Caroline Springs took complete control. Their midfield dominance led by co-captains Max Tessari and Cooper Pepi, and relentless forward pressure overwhelmed the Warriors, with the Lakers piling on seven goals to none to establish a commanding 41-point halftime lead.

Caroline Springs continued their dominance after the break, controlling possession and repeatedly punishing turnovers. Their forward line proved unstoppable, adding another 10 goals across the second half to come away comfortable winners 21.12 (138) to 7.8 (50).

Malik Elfakahani and Steven Kyriazis were outstanding with five goals each while Frank Campisi and Bailey Raak added four apiece in a relentless attacking performance. Riley Fisher finished with three majors for Hoppers Crossing with Bailey Young named their best.

The result further strengthens Caroline Springs’ status as a serious premiership contender.


Point Cook def by Sunshine

Sunshine made it back-to-back wins, grinding out a hard fought 13-point victory over Point Cook in a tough and contested battle where composure and efficiency proved the difference.

The visitors made the perfect start, kicking four first-quarter goals to open up an early 18-point lead while restricting Point Cook to just one major. Sunshine’s pressure around the contest and clean ball movement gave them control early in the game.

Point Cook responded strongly in the second term, tightening up defensively with Max Downing influential, while also creating more scoring opportunities. However, inaccurate kicking cost them the chance to fully capitalise, with Sunshine taking a narrow four-point lead into the main break.

The contest remained tight through the third quarter as both sides traded goals. Point Cook continued to challenge, but Sunshine managed to cling to a one-point advantage heading into the final term. When the game was there to be won, Sunshine lifted. Their ability to finish their chances and maintain composure under pressure helped secure a 9.7 (61) to 6.12 (48) victory.

Patrick O’Keefe led the way for Sunshine with three goals alongside 29 disposals in a brilliant captain’s performance. Oscar May battled hard for Point Cook to finish with three majors of his own.


Altona def by Yarraville Seddon Eagles

Yarraville Seddon was made to work in a 30-point victory over Altona, overcoming early pressure with a stronger second half and greater composure around goal.

The contest was evenly poised in the opening term, with the less fancied Vikings matching it with the Eagles in a physical and competitive start. Yarraville Seddon held a narrow two-point lead at quarter time before beginning to gain ascendancy in the second quarter through their midfield pressure and repeat inside 50 entries.

Despite some inaccuracy in front of goal, the Eagles controlled territory and stretched the margin to 17 points by halftime. Altona continued to battle hard after the break, but Yarraville Seddon’s ability to create scoring opportunities kept them in control.

The visitors extended their advantage during the third quarter, adding three goals while limiting Altona’s scoring impact. Although Altona showed fight in the final term, the Eagles steadied to close out a 10.13 (73) to 6.7 (43) win. Their ability to control momentum proved the difference across four quarters.

Isaac Kaddour led the way for Yarraville Seddon with three goals in an influential performance up forward, while Jake Roper was Altona’s standout contributor in attack with three majors of his own.


Werribee Districts def Albion

Werribee Districts’ impressive run of form has continued with a strong 38-point win over Albion, dominating across the middle two quarters to take control of the contest.

The opening term was tightly fought, with both sides moving the ball well and trading goals throughout. Werribee Districts held a narrow two-point advantage at quarter time, but the game shifted in the second quarter as the home side lifted their intensity around the contest.

Werribee Districts slammed on six second quarter goals, capitalising on quick ball movement and forward pressure to open up a 16-point halftime lead. Albion remained within reach, but Werribee Districts continued to control territory after the break, steadily extending the margin through the third quarter.

By the final change, the lead had grown to 37 points as Werribee Districts midfield led through Bailey Siwek and Harrison White, and their forward connection proved too strong. Albion fought hard in the last term, but the damage had already been done, with Werribee Districts securing a deserved 16.14 (110) to 10.12 (72) victory.

Daniel Nielson, Lachlan Rainbow and Callan Gilboy all contributed three goals in a balanced attacking display for Werribee Districts. For the visitors, Cooper Muir battled hard up forward, kicking three majors for Albion.


Point Cook Centrals def by Newport

Newport claimed its first win of the season with a strong four quarter performance defeating Point Cook Centrals by 47 points, running away with a 16.8 (104) to 9.3 (57) victory.

Newport took control early leading by 18 points at quarter time and then stepped things up with a blistering second quarter that broke the game open. The Panthers piled on eight goals in the second term to establish a commanding 44-point advantage at the main break.

The visitors continued to press after halftime, with Point Cook Centrals showing patches of fight through Cooper Langan, Luke Henderson and Devean Lyons, who each finished with two goals. Despite Centrals winning periods of the third quarter, Newport always had the answers and controlled the tempo around the ground.

The star of the day was Newport spearhead Hussein Kadour, who delivered a masterclass up forward with a remarkable nine goal haul. Kadour proved unstoppable inside 50, capitalising on strong midfield supply and punishing Point Cook Centrals on the scoreboard. Jesse Shell also played an important role in attack with three majors.

While Point Cook Centrals battled hard throughout the afternoon, Newport’s dominance in midfield courtesy of Hamza Dowdy and Darcy Cassar along with their scoreboard efficiency proved too strong.
