By Rod Carpenter

Caroline Springs def Point Cook

Caroline Springs produced another devastating attacking display to overrun Point Cook and record a commanding 92-point victory, storming home 23.11 (149) to 8.9 (57).

Point Cook made the brighter start, booting five first quarter goals to take a nine-point lead into quarter time. Their early ball movement and clean finishing caught Caroline Springs off guard in the opening stanza, with Lochlan Allen leading the way inside 50.

But from the second quarter onwards, it was all Caroline Springs. The home side exploded with eight goals in a dominant second term, completely turning the momentum of the contest and taking control by halftime. Their midfield lifted around stoppages, providing repeat entries and overwhelming Point Cook’s defence.

The standout performer was Malik Elfakahani, who delivered a sensational eight-goal haul in a standout display. Every time Caroline Springs surged forward, Elfakahani looked dangerous, proving impossible to contain with his marking power and finishing ability. At the other end of the ground Alipate Bryant was just as impressive as an impassable wall in defence.

Caroline Springs continued to pile on the pressure in the final two quarters, kicking 12 goals to just one after halftime in a ruthless finish. While Allen battled hard with three goals for Point Cook, the visitors struggled to stem the tide as Caroline Springs ran away with one of their most impressive wins of the year.

Parkside def Altona

Parkside delivered a football masterclass to dismantle Altona by a staggering 114 points, cruising to a dominant 24.17 (161) to 7.5 (47) victory in a one-sided affair.

From the opening bounce, Parkside set the tone with relentless pressure, slick ball movement and ruthless efficiency going inside 50. The home side burst out of the blocks with six first quarter goals while restricting Altona to just a solitary major, establishing complete control early.

The damage only worsened in the second quarter as Parkside added seven more goals to take a 67-point lead into halftime. Their midfield dominance and ability to win contested possession left Altona chasing shadows, with repeat inside-50 entries proving too much to handle as the likes of Charlie Di Stefano, Jackson Barrett and Julain Janev won plenty of footy all across the ground.

Parkside continued its relentless scoring in the second half, slamming on 11 goals after the main break to complete the Magpies’ most emphatic performance of the season. Zachary Morris starred in front of goal with a sensational seven-goal haul, proving unstoppable as he consistently found space and capitalised on Parkside’s midfield supply. Tom Condon was equally influential, finishing with five goals in a devastating two-pronged attacking partnership

Altona struggled to generate meaningful momentum, though Will Taylor and Patrik Balta and battled hard in difficult circumstances while also contributing two goals apiece.

Newport def by Werribee Districts

Werribee Districts was made to work against Newport, but the reigning premiers did enough to come away victorious by 21 points in an entertaining clash, claiming a 17.11 (113) to 14.8 (92) win.

Newport came out with strong intent, controlling the opening quarter through slick ball movement and scoreboard pressure to establish a 13-point lead at the first break. The home side looked dangerous going forward, with Mustafa Mesto and Hussein Kadour providing a major target inside 50 and causing headaches for the Werribee Districts defence.

But the momentum shifted dramatically in the second quarter as Werribee Districts lifted around the contest and took control of field position. The visitors piled on six goals for the term to hit the front by halftime, turning a slow start into a 13-point advantage at the main break.

Despite Newport fighting back and staying within striking distance throughout the third term, Werribee Districts continued to find answers in key moments. Daniel Nielson starred up forward with four goals, capitalising on strong delivery and finishing his chances when the game was on the line.

Mesto kept Newport in the contest with a brilliant five-goal performance, repeatedly threatening whenever the ball entered attack. The Panthers closed within two points twice in the fourth quarter, however, Werribee Districts finished stronger, using a five-goal final term to seal an important road victory in a high-quality contest.

Albion def Spotswood

Albion has continued its strong form with a commanding 37-point victory over Spotswood, pulling away in the second half to record an impressive 15.12 (102) to 9.11 (65) win in the WFNL Match of the Day.

The home side made an early statement, kicking four first-quarter goals to take an 11-point lead into the opening break. Albion looked composed with ball in hand and applied consistent pressure around the contest, forcing Spotswood to work hard for every opportunity.

Spotswood remained within striking distance throughout the first half, matching Albion’s intensity with the margin just 11 points at the main break. However, costly missed chances in front of goal prevented the visitors from putting genuine scoreboard pressure on.

The third quarter proved decisive as Albion tightened up defensively and began to control territory though the efforts of Josiah Garitos and Caleb and Darcy McPherson. Despite some inaccuracy, the home side extended its lead and entered the final term with momentum firmly on its side. Albion’s class shone through late as a five-goal final quarter sealed a convincing victory.

Daniel Rosenzweig was the standout up forward for Albion, producing a superb five-goal performance and proving a constant threat inside 50. Every time Spotswood looked to close the gap, Rosenzweig found a way to hit the scoreboard. Jackson Williams, James Cleaver and Charlie Barnes were among the top performers for Spotswood, the latter two each contributing two goals.

Sunshine def Point Cook Centrals

Sunshine has moved into the top five thanks to strong four-quarter performance against Point Cook Centrals, cruising to a dominant by 87 points victory, 17.13 (115) to 4.4 (28).

The home side wasted little time asserting control, exploding out of the blocks with six first-quarter goals to open up a commanding 30-point lead at the first break. Sunshine’s pressure around the contest and slick ball movement proved too much for the Sharks, who struggled to gain territory early.

Despite a quieter second quarter from Sunshine, the visitors were unable to significantly close the margin, with Point Cook Centrals only managing two goals to reduce the deficit to 22 points. Sunshine’s defensive structure held firm and ensured the game remained firmly in their grasp.

After the main break, Sunshine lifted again, piling on five third-quarter goals to effectively put the result beyond doubt before slamming on another six majors in the final term to complete the emphatic win.

Marcus Mangion and Marcus Russell led the charge up forward with three goals each in a balanced attacking display, while Sunshine’s even contribution across the ground highlighted their dominance. Every forward entry looked dangerous as the home side spread the scoring load throughout the afternoon.

Noah Helu and Joshua Grech worked hard for Point Cook Centrals, but the Sharks struggled to find consistent opportunities in attack on a difficult afternoon against a Sunshine outfit running high in confidence.

Yarraville Seddon def Hoppers Crossing

Yarraville Seddon delivered its most impressive attacking display of the season to defeat Hoppers Crossing by 55 points, winning a high-scoring and entertaining encounter 22.13 (145) to 14.6 (90).

The Eagles set the tone from the outset, exploding with six first-quarter goals to establish a dominant 35-point lead at the first change. Their dominance around the contest and quick ball movement overwhelmed Hoppers Crossing early, while also restricted the visitors to just a single major in the opening term.

Yarraville Seddon took complete control in the second quarter, piling on another seven goals to stretch the margin to 55 points at halftime. Their midfield ascendency translated into repeated forward entries, with the Eagles proving clinical in front of goal.

Brodie Catania starred up forward with five goals in a polished performance, consistently finding dangerous positions inside 50 and capitalising on his opportunities. Wil Kliszewski provided a strong target and excellent support with four majors as the Eagles attacking firepower proved too much to contain.

To Hoppers Crossing’s credit, the visitors fought hard after halftime and showed plenty of spirit. Harry Maguire was outstanding in attack, booting six goals in an impressive individual display and giving his side a focal point throughout the afternoon.

Despite the late resistance, Yarraville Seddon’s explosive first half proved decisive as the Eagles secured an emphatic victory to continue their strong run of form.
