SENIOR WOMEN: ROUND 8 REPORT

By Kel Rowe

Round 8 of the St Vincent’s Private Hospital Werribee Senior Women’s Competition continued to bring the goods with some exciting footy. Bags were kicked, runs were ended, and milestones marked.

WERRIBEE CENTRALS JUNIORS 25.18 (168) def. NORTH FOOTSCRAY 0.0 (0)

A fresh Friday night saw the round kick off between Werribee Centrals and North Footscray at Galvin Park, with the Centurions romping home to a 168-point victory. Kyleisha Kinces led the way, earning best-on-ground with a round-high individual haul of nine majors.

Kinces, who was also rewarded with the Round 8 Skins Special Effort Award, was well supported by Centrals’ teammates Paige Cook and Julia Nash, whilst Amy Duggan and Rebecca Telfer fought hard for North Footscray.

SUNS 5.5 (35) def. WEST FOOTSCRAY 3.5 (23)

On Saturday morning, the Suns and Roosters went toe-to-toe at Goddard St Reserve, with the hosts claiming a brace of goals late in the final quarter to steal the win. The even-sided contest provided many entertaining moments, but it was the sealer from Suns sharp-shooter Mandy Seath — an opportunistic soccer volley out of mid-air — that closed out the game.

Bonnie Brown and Zoe Court were impressive for the home side, with Courtney Mangelsdorf and Kaila Ducret performing well for the Roosters.

POINT COOK CENTRRALS 0.0 (0) def. by WYNDHAMVALE 20.8 (128)

The Sharks welcomed the Falcons to Windorah Way, in a match that saw Wyndhamvale simply too strong for the young Point Cook Centrals side. Karla Davis and Zoe Hurring were among the best for the home side, but it wasn’t enough to shift the dial against the likes of Falcons’ top performers Mariah Burton and Chloe Prior.

Larissa Renaut continued to carve out her dominance inside 50, kicking 8 majors for Wyndhamvale to help lock in the 128-point win.

YARRAVILLE SEDDON EAGLES 9.13 (67) def. LAVERTON MAGPIES 4.4 (28)

Meanwhile, at Yarraville Oval, the Eagles put a stop to the Magpies’ 3-game streak, overcoming Laverton to claim a 39-point win. Akec Makur Chuot (3) and Layna Porter (1) were damaging, whilst Katelyn Kissack celebrated her 50th game milestone with a goal also.

Shae-Lee Murphy-Burke and Quetta Holloway-Jinks led the way for Laverton, earning time in best for their efforts.

PARKSIDE SPURS 16.14 (110) def. CAROLINE SPRINGS 0.0 (0)

To round out the weekend, reigning league best-and-fairest Rita Ceravolo celebrated her 100th senior game alongside her classy Spurs side, running over Caroline Springs in a twilight match at Merv Hughes Oval.

Ceravolo and teammate Nat Pearce were Parkside’s strongest in the 110-point win, with Giselle Lambley kicking a game-high 5 majors. Arianisa Muratoska and Ebony Stevens impressed for the Lakers side.
