An early finals preview will light up this weekend’s WFNL Match of the Day, as ladder leaders Caroline Springs meet Parkside at Town Centre Recreation Reserve.
With both sides entering this clash in the midst of hot winning streaks, the Lakers (who’ve won their past seven), and the Magpies (who’ve won their past five), will be eager to continue their extraordinary runs.
Parkside will be dreaming of finally toppling the Lakers, something they haven’t been able to accomplish following their return to Division 1 in 2024.
The Magpies have won their past five matches by an average of 72 points, a stat that puts the league on notice.
Goalkicking spearheads Zachary Morris and Tom Condon have been instrumental in this, with the electric duo booting a combined 32 goals across the past four weeks.
Unsurprisingly, Morris and Condon lead the Pies in front of the big sticks, boasting goal averages of four and three respectively per match.
Star Magpie Bruno Laguda has been a ball magnet in 2026, averaging over 27 possessions a game and was a key player in his side’s 114-point win over the Sharks last weekend.
A star-studded line-up will be in action on Saturday, but will it be the Lakers that go nine-wins-in-a-row?
On a winning streak that extends back to Round 2, Caroline Springs are establishing themselves as the team to beat in 2026.
The Lakers were put to the test in last weekend’s eight-point victory over Newport, a dramatic turnaround from their 145-point victory the Saturday prior.
The men in black, white, blue, and gold will be eyeing off an increased margin in this contest, and will look to draw upon Steven Kyriazis, who currently leads the division goalkicking competition with 35 majors having not missed the big sticks all year.
Ben Caluzzi is a handy talent to have on field for the Lakers, averaging close to 30 touches week in and week out. Zen Christofi and Jamie Ristoski found the Sherrin on 31 occasions in last weekend’s outing.
A fierce battle is on the cards, and both teams’ sights set on the finals, a win in this contest would edge them closer to securing their ticket.
