An early finals preview will light up Saturday’s WFNL Match of the Day, as North Footscray (2nd, 10-1) and West Footscray (3rd, 9-2) clash at Hansen Reserve.
Both the Devils and Roosters enter this contest riding hot winning streaks, with North Footscray winning its past six, and West Footscray on a run of five.
Saturday’s derby will also see some of the division’s best goalkicking talents battle it out.
Star Devil Lynden Dunn kicked seven goals when these rivals last met on Anzac Day and boasts a tally of 44 after securing four last weekend against Sunshine Heights.
Also, up there on the goalkicking charts for North Footscray is Matthew Serafin, owning 40 majors after a three-goal display against Braybrook last Saturday.
North Footscray will look for another onslaught against West Footscray, but the Roosters also have what it takes to do just the same.
Their captain in Matthew Turcinovich has had a phenomenal year for the Roosters, fresh off a seven-goal haul last weekend, and is another player on the field to have 44 goals next to their name.
Henry Lovell has been named in West Footscray’s best in ten matches this season, while it’s a streak of seven best-ons for Jaycob Doyle.
After the Devils and Roosters both experienced heartbreaking finishes in last year’s finals campaign, both sides are on track for September redemption, and a win in this contest would further help secure their spot.
North Footscray has won its past ten matches against West Footscray, with the Roosters’ most recent victory over their local rivals dating back to Round 13, 2019.
The Devils have proved too good for the Roosters in recent years, with strong wins the recent theme, including a 23-point victory when they met in the 2025 Qualifying Final.
But most recently, it was a 38-point triumph for North Footscray, getting the job done on Anzac Day.
Will West Footscray finally get over the line against the Devils, or will North Footscray’s derby dominance continue?
