Round 13 Recap: St Vincent’s Private Hospital Werribee Senior Women’s Football

With just 3 weeks of the home and away season left, the teams of the St Vincent’s Private Hospital Werribee Senior Women’s Competition took their chances and solidified their positions on the competition ladder.
Suns Senior Women vs Parkside Spurs Senior Women
1.2-8 defeated by 13.12-90 Parkside Spurs Senior Women won by 82 points
The Parkside Spurs continued their dominant unbeaten through the season, defeating the Suns in an 82-point victory away from home. The match saw plenty of young talent shine, with Spur Marlo Atkins and Suns Alexis Madden and Bonnie Lea Brown amongst the best of the day — all three players part of the talent league pathway.
The match also saw Parkside’s Stacy Rigon hit the score board for a game-high 3 goals and Suns’ player Isabella Cutajar celebrate her 50th game milestone.
North Footscray Senior Women vs Wyndhamvale Senior Women
0.0-0 defeated by 30.12-192 Wyndhamvale Senior Women won by 192 points
Wyndhamvale added valuable points and percentage to retain their spot at 2nd on the ladder, running over the North Footscray Devils in a massive 192-point drubbing. Sonia Casey was the standout in a tough game for the Devils, earning best on for her efforts.
For the Falcons, the match saw a rampage in front of goals from the Burton Sisters, with both Mariah and Rachael kicking 7 majors apiece.
West Footscray Senior Women vs Werribee Centrals Senior Women
1.3-9 defeated by 3.3-21 Werribee Centrals Juniors Women won by 12 points
At Skinner Reserve, it was a battle between 3rd and 4th, as West Footscray took it up to a classy Werribee Centrals outfit. Despite their best attempts, the Roosters side fell short, the Centurions claiming a tight 12-point win.
Centurion Meghann Basto dominated on the half-back line, containing any forward-half delivery from the home side, and two goals from teammate Maddi Cronin secured the tight victory. Meanwhile, Mak Woltsche provided plenty of run and carry out of the Roosters’ defensive 50, earning time in best.
Yarraville Seddon Eagles Senior Women vs Caroline Springs Senior Women
13.10-104 defeated 2.1-13 Yarraville Seddon Eagles Senior Women won by 91 points
The Eagles welcomed Caroline Springs to Yarraville Oval, even permitting some players to get a game for premiership points underway. Claiming the victory by 91-points at the final siren, the game also marked a special milestone for the home side, with longtime Eagles player Layna Porter celebrating a momentous 250 career games.
Porter hit the scoreboard for a major alongside her young teammate Ruby Colebatch (3 goals), whilst Jessica Mercieca did the hard yards for the Lakers’ side.
Point Cook Centrals Senior Women vs Laverton Magpies Senior Women
4.3-27 defeated by 6.6-42 Laverton Magpies Senior Women won by 15 points
To round out the weekend, Point Cook Centrals went head-to-head against Laverton, with the Magpies returning to some winning form after a string of disappointing losses. Quetta Holloway-Jinks and Ashlyne McInnes led the way for Laverton — helping to secure the 15-point win; whilst Chloe Elkington set the standard for the Sharks, kicking 2 majors and earning best on for the home side.
The match saw Magpies Jaime Sawer (2 goals) and Kayla Ravanello (2 goals) hit the scoreboard and advance their respective positions in the race for leading goal kicker, now sitting at 10th and 4th respectively. Falcon Larissa Renaut extended her lead, kicking 3 to bring her season tally to 42.
