St Vincent’s Private Hospital Werribee Senior Women’s Football: Round 14 Recap

Round 14 of the St Vincent’s Private Hospital Werribee Senior Women’s Competition was one for the history books, featuring a long-overdue women’s Match of the Day. Big clashes across the weekend continued to set places on the ladder, with the final order set to come down to the wire.
Werribee Centrals Senior Women vs Wyndhamvale Senior Women
2.5-17 defeated by 5.5-35 Wyndhamvale Senior Women won by 18 points
Fans of the competition and WFNL nuffies alike were finally treated to the showdown between the third-placed Werribee Centrals and second-placed Wyndhamvale, with the visiting Falcons walking away as 18-point victors.
The Friday night fixture saw Wyndhamvale hold the lead at every turn, with Ava Strathairn the top performer for the Falcons, and Jessica Spall kicking two majors on her former side. Centurions Kyleisha Kinces (1 goal) and Meghann Basto were the standouts for the home team.
Suns Senior Women vs North Footscray Senior Women
22.14-146 defeated 2.2-14 Suns Senior Women won by 132 points
Despite logging a massive 132-point victory over their opponents in North Footscray, the Suns made sure that Saturday at Goddard Street Reserve was bigger than just the footy.
Celebrating their first NAIDOC Community Event as a club, the home side donned an extraordinary Indigenous guernsey designed by Marli Marli Creative – Tara-Rose Gonebale, a proud Wagiman, Ngan’Gimerri and Fijian woman.
Suns’ Mandy Seath and Danni Woods had a day out in front of the big sticks, each kicking 4 majors, earning time in best for their sharpshooting efforts.
Laverton Magpies Senior Women vs Caroline Springs Senior Women
6.6-42 defeated by 9.3-57 Caroline Springs Senior Women won by 15 points
Laverton suffered a shock defeat to the lower-laddered Caroline Springs at home on Saturday morning, largely due to a boost the Lakers received in the form of some of their senior firepower.
With some recognisable names on the Lakers list thanks to an EDFL bye, the visiting side held off a second-half surge from the Magpies to claim a 15-point victory.
Ashlyne McInnes put on a best-on-ground performance for Laverton, with teammate Kayla Ravanello hitting the scoreboard for two majors. A game-high three goals we
collected by Lakers rocket Nyomi Stowers, who was well supported across the match by the efforts of Charlize Sidoni.
Parkside Spurs Senior Women vs Point Cook Centrals Senior Women
15.13-103 defeated 0.5-5 Parkside Spurs Senior Women won by 98 points
Parkside hosted Point Cook Centrals down by the river at Merv Hughs Oval, continuing their dominant hold on the fixture with a 98-point win. Skipper Jess Byrnes (3 goals) led the way for the Spurs, earning best-on, whilst teammate Stacy Rigon kicked a game-high tally of 4 majors.
Sharks star Nya Chuol was at her best, working hard around the ground, and despite the loss, the Point Cook Centrals celebrated the 100th game milestone of Sabine Harnden.
Yarraville Seddon Eagles Senior Women vs West Footscray Senior Women
3.0-18 defeated by 7.6-48 West Footscray Senior Women won by 30 points
To round out the weekend, and in a history-making first for the WFNL, Yarraville Seddon welcomed West Footscray to Yarraville Oval for the Match of the Day. The hit-out was broadcast live on radio on 88.9 WynFM and streamed online by the Local Footy Hub platform, much to the enthusiasm of the two suburban rivals.
The Roosters held the Eagles scoreless for 3-quarters of the match, with the final score going the way of West Footscray by 30-points. Pippa Nolan and Maggie Logan were tireless for the home side, and a late surge to hit the scoreboard was provided by Eagles’ key forward Katelyn Kissack (3 goals).
Laura Littlepage was big in defence, providing the Roosters with plenty of rebound off the half-back, whilst Layla Dawkins and Juri Graco-Ilves (4-goals) also featured amongst West Footscray’s best.
