It’s do or die in the Preliminary Final of WFNL Division Two, with West Footscray and Wyndhamvale set to battle it out for the last grand final ticket at Yarraville Oval.
It’ll be the second time the Roosters and Falcons meet in the space of three weeks, with West Footscray most recently taking a seven-point win over Wyndhamvale in the Qualifying Final.
In what was one of the contests of the season, the Roosters snatched the win out of the Falcons hands after trailing at all three of the breaks, coming from 14 points down at three quarter time.
However, the celebrations were short-lived for the Roosters.
Last weekend, West Footscray was put to the test against North Footscray, going down by 79 points in the major Semi Final.
While the Roosters may have been overwhelmed on the field and on the scoreboard, they didn’t stop fighting until the final siren.
With 91 goals next to his name for this season, Rooster Matthew Turcinovich struck at goal once and now sits nine majors away from the century.
Capable of using a strong handball to get the ball out of defence, West Footscray will look to now improve its Sherrin delivery to its forwards and to put pressure on the Falcons’ defence with strong force.
Will this be enough to send West Footscray into its first Grand Final since 2015?
In the hunt for back-to-back premierships, Wyndhamvale will look for sweet revenge against the Roosters when it matters most.
After its defeat in the Qualifying Final, the Falcons have taken the scenic route to Saturday’s Preliminary Final.
44-point winners over Albanvale in last Sunday’s minor Semi Final, the Falcons won what was a scrappy contest.
Noah Cooney kicked a game-high three goals to be named the best-on-ground, while Lewis Stanton’s dominance in front of goal continued.
Leading the division with 106 goals this season, Stanton’s head-head-to-head battle with West Footscray’s Turcinovich will be one to watch.
Will it be the Falcons or the Roosters that advance to the 2026 WFNL Division 2 Grand Final? It’s time to find out.
