ALTONA ENHANCE PREMIERSHIP CREDENTIALS

Round 8 of the Western Region Football League TIV Under 19 Competition saw Altona enhance their premiership credentials with a clinical display against Werribee, while Hoppers Crossing emphatically dismantled Point Cook at Saltwater Reserve.

The tussle between Altona and Werribee remained quite tight all day, with merely a goal separating both sides at each break. Throughout three quarters of the gritty display, it was anyone’s guess as to who was taking home the four points.

As the three quarter time siren sounded, Altona led by five points.

However, much to Werribee’s dismay, Altona flexed their muscle in the final quarter, kicking four goals to none and running out 30-point winners, 10.7. (67) to 5.7. (37).

Despite the absence of star forward Daniel Pantalleresco, Jawad Jawad was able to cover the tall forward by kicking three majors for the Vikings. Christian Verdino and Zachary Santullo were also instrumental in the victory for the home side.

Meanwhile, Kallam Davis and Lachlan Rainbow were a large reason why Werribee Districts remained in the contest for three quarters.

The other match played in Round 8 however, was a different story. Hoppers Crossing dominated proceedings from the outset in their clash with Point Cook, with a dominant first half display providing a platform for the comprehensive victory.

The Warriors led 8.6. (54) to 0.1. (1) at half time, and were able to continue the rampant momentum in the second half. Despite losing the third quarter, a 7-goal last quarter resulted in a 90-point victory.

The Haddara influence was very strong in the victory for the Warriors, with Mohammed Haddara kicking 5, while Radwan Haddara contributed 4 majors.  Regan Vesty was also instrumental with his work throughout the middle, and two goals.

On a bright note in an otherwise dour day for the Bulldogs, Connor De Brincat fought gallantly throughout the match.
