POINT COOK AIMING TO MAKE HISTORY

Point Cook are hoping to cap off a near perfect season on Friday night, when they take on a determined Braybrook team in the inaugural Victoria University WRFL Netball Grand Final.

The Bulldogs have lost just one game this season and are the favourites to win the decider.

“To win the inaugural premiership means you are making history, – there is only ever one inaugural premier, so it will be a very special premiership to win,” Point Cook Netball Co-ordinator Samantha Pruscino said.

Point Cook defeated North Footscray in the major Semi Final by 26 goals after finishing the regular season in first place.

They have been the best attacking netball side, averaging about 50 goals a game.

Their defensive pressure has also been a highlight. In their 12 games they have only given away 230 goals, the best of any side in 2018.

Pruscino said the season has been better than expected.

“The talent, abilities and commitment from the WRFL and the clubs has been positive, and can only get better,” she said.

“We have had a great lead up to the Grand Final. We had a comfortable win in the Semi Final, and our girls are switched on, super pumped and ready to go.”

Point Cook will take on Braybrook in the decider, a team who has had defeated Spotswood and North Footscray in the past two weeks.

“We are aware of what Braybrook will bring, and we are prepared for a very physical game. We are quite confident as we had a good win against them early in the season,” Pruscino said.

“It we go hard from the first centre pass, and concentrate on playing our own game style and play, then it will be ours for the taking.”

Pruscino wanted to thank the Point Cook Football Club committee for giving her the opportunity to introduce netball at the club and the families and players who have thrown their support behind the team.

“To our supporters, the mums, dads, partners, kids, nans, pops, PCFC players and committee, and other family and friends. These guys get us over the line and will play a big role in the game of Friday night,” she said.

“To the coaches and players, we only started this venture in March, and we have become such a close netball family.

“Our players range from 15 to almost 50, and we have a great mix of learners and mentors who support each other on and off the court.

“Everyone is continually wanting to learn and develop. I love these ladies and can’t wait to celebrate Friday night and bring the inaugural cup to Point Cook.”
