TOP FOUR FIRE IN VU WRFL NETBALL

The top four teams in Victoria University WRFL Netball Division 1 all scored big victories in Round 7.

Ladder-leaders Point Cook Centrals 1 (43 goals), Sunshine 1 (30 goals), Point Cook Blue (23) goals and Braybrook Whitten (51) goals all scored victories as pass the half-way point of the 2019 season.

The Sharks’ defensive pressure was excellent, restricting their opponents Braybrook Priest to just 16 goals for the match.

Moana Tamarua and Katie Kakpschke played well, as did shooter Rebecca Hicks, who had another outstanding game in the goal ring.

Point Cook Centrals 1 averages 58 goals a game in 2019 and as we head into the bye, is in a great position heading into the second half of the season.

Sunshine 1 put on a dominant display against North Footscray.

Dynamic duo Ani Naicovi and Casey Smart proved formidable in the opening half. The two shooters scored a combined 25 goals, opening a 17-goal lead at half time.

The final score was 48-18.

It was the Point Cook derby, with Point Cook Blue going head-to-head with Point Cook Red.

Point Cook Blue had a big second half, led by reigning Best and Fairest winner Jenna Goricanec, who scored 24 goals the third and fourth quarters.

Braybrook Whitten is a game clear in fourth place after their win over Point Cook Centrals 2.

Ashlee Bertocci was a standout in the 66-15 victory, while Belinda Crank also played well.

Spotswood Gold defeated North Sunshine 67-13, it was their biggest win of the season so far.

Megan Cleary shot 32 goals in the match.

In Division 2, Spotswood Green’s unbeaten run ended, with Braybrook Hawkins scoring a 12-goal win.

Braybrook Hawkins held a 10-goal margin at half-time, with Spotswood Gold unable to bridge the gap in the second half.

Ebony Kane played well for Braybrook as did Melissa Hinch.

Despite the loss, Spotswood Green still sit on top of the Victoria University WRFL Netball ladder.

Glen Orden Gold are in fourth position following their win over Glen Orden Brown. They won 39-17.

Ashlee Dillon was among the best on court.

Albion won its second game of the season, having defeated Sunshine 2 by 12-goals.

Finally, Manor Lakes scored a win over Point Cook White. The Storm outscored their opponents each quarter.

Round 8 resumes on June 14.
