A Big Day for Parkside: Men’s and Women’s Teams Reviewed

It was a big day of football at Merv Hughes Oval last Saturday, with the finals-aspirant Parkside of TIV Division One, and the ladder-leading Parkside Spurs of St Vincent’s Private Hospital Werribee Senior Women both in action.

Round 12 – St Vincent’s Private Hospital Werribee Senior Women
An early-morning clash opened Saturday’s action at Merv Hughes Oval, with ladder-leaders Parkside Spurs taking on North Footscray.
The Spurs proved hot from the get-go, with a seven-goal opening term setting the tone for the match.
The premiership favourites would go on to boot an additional 16 goals throughout the contest, with 11 players hitting the scoreboard.
Aleisha Casley kicked a match-best five goals, with Stacy Rigon following close behind with four. Hannah Lazzaro kicked three, while it was double from Ashleigh Ford and Danielle Speranza.
Rita Ceravolo (one goal) was named the Spurs’ best after a dominant game, while Taquola Angel also picked up her eleventh best-on naming.
With the assistance of some fill-in players from the Spurs, North Footscray put up its highest score in its inaugural season of women’s footy, something everyone in the Devils camp should be extremely proud of.
Dianne Comport led the scoring for the Devils with two goals, while Amy Duggan, Amanda Portelli and Rebecca Telfer all found one each.
All four Devils were named as some of the side’s best-on alongside Kayla Court.
Parkside Spurs’ undefeated status remains intact, while its continuous improvements for North Footscray.
Round 13 will see the Spurs meet the Suns at Goddard Street Reserve, while the Devils will return to Hansen Reserve for a clash with Wyndhamvale.

Round 13 – WFNL TIV Division One
In the top-of-the-table clash, the Eagles proved that they’re no easy beats, walking away 47-point winners over Parkside at Merv Hughes Oval.
Yarraville Seddon opened the game on fire, with an eight-goal opening term stunning the Magpies, setting the Eagles up for a 37-point lead at quarter time.
A quiet second quarter would see the Pies put up 2.3 (15) while the Eagles went goalless.
Both sides put pedal-to-the-metal returning to the field, and in a hotly-contested third quarter, the Magpies brought up 4.2 (26) to the Eagles’ 3.8 (26).
It was all to play for heading into the final term, with Parkside keeping its head in the contest, while Yarraville Seddon was looking for an opportunity to put an end to Parkside’s hopes.
It was the Eagles’ wish that came true, with the red, gold, and blue dominating the term’s play, scoring 5.3 (33) to Parkside’s 1.3 (9), to send themselves away victorious.
Parkside’s Julian Janev led the disposal count with 35 touches. Teammates Bruno Laguda and Hudson Barrett both found the Sherrin 29 times.
Cheered on by some passionate onlookers in the pocket, Eagle Lachlan Green slotted a team-leading five goals to take home the SKINS Special Effort Award.
Star Magpie Zachary Morris continued his goalkicking form with his own bag of five and was named as one of Parkside’s best-on.
In Round 14, the ladder-leading Yarraville-Seddon will welcome Caroline Springs to Yarraville Oval.
Parkside will look to bounce back against Newport ay A.W. Langshaws Reserve.
