
NEW POSITION FOR FOOTBALL IN THE WEST
The AFL is set to invest more football resources into the west by introducing an AFL Educator Specialist – Wyndham, a role which aims in increase participation amongst people from culturally diverse communities.
The newly created position is responsible for the delivery of the AFL Schools’ Education Curriculum program in four (4) identified, priority schools in the Wyndham LGA as part an initiative embedded in the AFL’s National Cultural Diversity Action Plan, to engage young people, families and communities from culturally diverse backgrounds.
The key focus of the role is to achieve the following outcomes across priority schools:
- A qualified teacher to deliver Health & Physical Education lessons aligned to the Victorian Curriculum F-10, primarily using Australian Rules Football as a vehicle to meet educational outcomes.
- Build awareness of, and connection with, Australian Football in schools–including options to engage with elite AFL Clubs, community clubs for incursions, excursions and sporting competitions.
- Develop transition initiatives that provide pathways from structured and unstructured in-school/after school programs, into established community-based football and North Melbourne FC/The Huddle initiatives (including leading relevant events and programs).
- Provide and/or facilitate Professional Learning and Development opportunities to teachers in the four (4) identified schools and offer to teachers in the broader school community and Professional Learning Communities.
- Support young school footballers to transition into programs and competitions in local clubs
- Engage with relevant Culturally And Linguistically Diverse (CALD) community organisations to ensure alignment and ongoing connection between in-school program activity and broader community activity.
The role will work closely with classroom teachers and other relevant school staff to engage students and deliver quality participation experiences, with the aim to create a sustainably active culture and promote ‘sport for social good’ within the community.
It will also include working closely with the North Melbourne Football Club and The Huddle to support holistic community engagement activity in Wyndham.
