ALBANVALE AND LAVERTON BACK ON WINNERS LIST

Albanvale has ended a two-game skid overcoming an in-form West Footscray in Round 6 of the Division 2 Senior Men’s season.

Things didn’t look good early for the Cobras as they failing to hit the scoreboard in the opening stanza at Skinner Reserve, but they did most of the scoring from that point on with the Roosters limited to the just one goal after quarter time.

The visitors took control in the second term with six goals helping them flip a 26-point deficit into an 11-point lead at the main break, before adding three more majors in the third.

The final term was a scrap, but the Cobras’ advantage was never threatened with the final score 5.12 (42) to 10.8 (68).

For Albanvale, Corey Field was outstanding along with Jack Burgess who kicked a season-best four goals as the pair helped their side jump the Roosters into third on the ladder.

Blake Brigham and Samuel Hall were West Footscray’s best.

Braybrook has moved into the top five for the first time this season, recording a third straight win with a 10-point victory against Western Rams.

The Brookers enjoyed an explosive start to the game before the Rams came hard late at Ian Cowie Recreation Reserve.

With a 35-point lead at the main break two quick goals early in the second half extended Braybrook’s advantage further but the Rams weren’t out of it.

Three goals in the space of five mutes to end the third term reduced the margin to 29 points before three straight Rams majors to begin the last, cut the deficit to just 11 points.

However, it was a goalless affair from there as Nathan Spackman and Aidan O’Rafferty ensured the visitors held on to secure the points 8.13 (61) to 10.11 (71).

Stephen Mihelakos-James kicked a game-high three goals for Braybrook, while Tyler Lewis (two goals) and Joshua Cassar were the top contributors for the home team.

North Footscray proved it is the clear-cut second-best side through the first six rounds of 2025, downing the Suns 14.11 (95) to 5.6 (36) at Hansen Reserve.

The Devils kicked the opening five goals of the game and led by 30 points at the first change before extending their advantage over the next three terms on route to a fifth win of the campaign.

Barnaby Sianos and Kyle Rodgers were influential for North and with key forward Matthew Serafin out, the hosts shared the load in attack with six individual players kicking two goals.

Michael Ryan and Joshua Harris were the best performers for the Suns who have fallen to sixth on the ladder with a 3-3 record following consecutive losses.

Laverton collected its second win of the season with a 34-point triumph over Sunshine Heights.

Down by 13 points after the opening quarter the Magpies then produced their highest scoring term of the season, kicking 7.5 in the second to be up by 29 points at the half.

The Dragons failed to make inroads in the third with both teams adding four majors, and it was again goal-for-goal in the last with the Magpies coming away 16.8 (104) to 11.4 (74) winners.

Alex Grigg was best on ground for Laverton after booting five majors for the second time this season, while Sunshine Heights was best served by Jacob Poa and Brett Borland.

Meanwhile, league leaders Wyndhamvale had no issues against Tarneit with a comprehensive 1.0 (6) to 21.28 (214) result at Wootten Road Reserve.

Lewis Stanton again made the most of his side’s dominance finishing with nine goals while Nathan Griffiths also got in on the action snagging a season-high four.

Tyson Ford and Callum Hillier battled hard to be named Tarneit’s best.
