ALBANVALE CONTINUE WINNING RUN

By SARAH RAMANTANIS

With the clouds glooming over the game at Robert Bruce Reserve, it was Albanvale’s work rate which led them to victory in the Division 3 match on Saturday.

Laverton Coach Jackson Clark said that his team would use the rain as a positive, as wet weather is seen as an equal playing field against the more fancied opposition.

However, even with the wind blowing against Albanvale, Nathan Black and Daniel Bartolo’s managed to hold off the Pies in the first half, heading into the main break holding onto a 31-point lead.

Fighting to the finish in the second half Scott Bell scored two goals for Laverton, Justin Brooks and George Maroney were also among the best.

Laverton’s persistence was still no match for Albanvale, as the Cobras ended the match with a 47-point win.

Albanvale will use this victory as motivation for Round 5 when they go head-to-head with the undefeated Tarneit at Wootten Road Reserve.

Meanwhile, Sunshine Heights scored its second win of the season after defeating Braybrook in a thrilling game, by 5-points at Ainsworth Reserve.

The Brookers couldn’t be beaten in the first quarter, holding a 14-point lead. However, that lead was stripped away by the half-time siren with Sunshine Heights kicking 5 goals in the second quarter.

Mathew Serafin and Benjamin Henderson were exceptional for the Dragons while Nick Gregson was among the best for the Brookers.

Braybrook will next face undefeated Glen Orden in Round 5, and Sunshine Heights are against Laverton.

Glen Orden impressed with an outstanding 165-point win against North Sunshine.

The Hawks came out flying with a 73-point lead over the Road runners in the first half at Dempster Park.

Joel Radovanovic kicked eight goals for the Hawks, and Aaron Law kicked six. Jonathon Despott scored two for the Road Runners.

Tarneit continued their strong start to the season, with a 84-point win against Wyndham Suns.

Aaron Molivas and Christopher Benson dominated for Tarneit, while Jarrod Vella and Josh Foster were among the best for the Suns. The Suns take on North Sunshine in Round 5.
