ALTONA SCORE GRITTY WIN
By JAMES ORUBA
Altona further cemented their status as premiership favourites, with a gritty 36 point win over third-placed Caroline Springs in Round 15 of the TIV Under 19 competition.
The 6.11. (47) to 1.5. (11) victory was defensively dominated affair for a large duration of the game, as the tight contest only resulted in three goals being kicked up until three-quarter time.
Altona only led by nine points at the final change, meaning the game was up for grabs, and the four points were there for the taking.
But winning sides are able to find a way to get the job done, and that’s what Altona were able to do.
Following three-quarter time, the Vikings were able to break away as they kicked 4.4 to the Lakers’ solitary behind, in order to post another win on the board.
Jack Callaway was instrumental for the victors with 2 goals, while Lachlan Goodland and Michael Rubino were also key pillars in the victory, as the question of whether anyone can catch Altona remains to be answered.
For the Lakers, Zain Neicho registered their solitary goal, while Jack Tarr and Nathan Goodwin were formidable with their presence and work-rate across the ground.
In the other encounter that took place over Round 15, 2nd-placed Hoppers Crossing routed Point Cook by 115 points.
The result could have been even more one-sided, as inaccurate goal kicking plagued the Warriors, who registered 42 scoring shots in comparison to Point Cook’s 2.
Led by the usual suspects such as the Haddara Brothers and Anthony Tiricola, the Warriors were in complete control for the Warriors.
In what has become a long and jading season for the Bulldogs, Dilan Cosar and Cameron Saliba were shining lights on a very tough day at the office.
Werribee Districts had the bye, and will look to reset their season in Round 16 against Altona in what looks set to be a very important clash for both sides.
