BIG LAST QUARTER FROM THE LIONS

Deer Park produced an impressive fourth quarter, overturning an 11-point deficit to pip Werribee Districts by two-points in TIV Division 1.

Inaccurate kicking nearly cost the Lions and despite trailing for most of the match, the visitors last term was enough as they held Districts to just two points.

Lucas Nikoloski’s kicked a game-high three goals in the 6.17. (53) to 7.10. (52) win. Nikoloski and Kier Bol played were among the best on ground.

The Lions host St Albans in Round 6 while Werribee Districts will look to atone for the close loss with a home match-up against Yarraville-Seddon Eagles.

Caroline Springs’ perfect start to the season continued in its 70-point triumph against Spotswood.

A scoreless second quarter signalled trouble for the Woodsmen, the Lakers showing no mercy in the second half with eight goals to one as they finished with nine individual goalkickers.

The premiership favourites head to Sunshine this week while Spotswood will travel to Point Cook, looking to put the disappointing loss behind them.

Altona flexed its muscles in a dominant 159-point thrashing of Sunshine, kicking 24 goals in the match and keeping the Kangaroos goalless.

Defender-turned-forward Braden Ferrari’s two goals helped Hoppers Crossing overcome a tough Yarraville-Seddon in a game hindered by the conditions, 5.14. (44) to 4.6. (30).

The Warriors led at each break and held on for the 14-point win despite the Eagles’ best attempts.

St Albans proved too good in its 10.10. (70) to 6.11. (47) win against Point Cook, the Saints leading at each break and doing enough to hold off a valiant Bulldogs by 23-points.
