BRAYBROOK’S EPIC GRAND FINAL WIN

By LEO MULLALY

Braybrook delivered a performance for the ages, holding off a fast-finishing Suns outfit by two points at Avalon Airport Oval in the Alan Mance Motors Division 3 Grand Final.

Braybrook brought the heat early, winning the important contests and looking dangerous in transition.

Aidan O’Rafferty led the way for the Brookers with his intensity and leadership, as Braybrook opened up a 14-point lead at the first break.

The second quarter started with two fantastic roving goals from Brody Vorano, which extended Braybrook’s lead.

The Suns were wasteful in front of goal, missing some gettable chances before the half.

After half time, Nicholas Papakalodoukas slammed home a superb running snap in front of the Brookers’ fans.

The Suns kept willing themselves at the contest, but Braybrook were equally up for the fight, holding a 20-point lead at three quarter time.

The Suns charged home, kicking three goals in the last 10 mins, but it was too little too late as Braybrook held on to claim a victory not many would have predicted at the beginning of the season.

O’Rafferty was awarded best afield for his outstanding all-round performance, winning the Henry Turner Medal, while Papakalodoukas’ speed and ball use was a highlight throughout the game.

Luke Zammit had some important moments late for Braybrook, restricting any Suns’ attack.

Mitchell Grubb and Johny Ho were also brilliant for the victors.

For the Suns, Lucas Andrew and Paul Tomelty were strong performers in the loss.

In the Reserves, Albanvale defeated the Suns 8.10. (58) to 7.8. (50). Brock Mclarty won the Best on Ground Medal.
