BROOKERS AND DEVILS SCORE CRUCIAL WINS

Braybrook continues to close in on a top five spot in Division 2 after a convincing 49-point victory over Albanvale.

The Brookers avenged their early season loss to the Cobras with the 19.13 (127) to 11.12 (78) result away from home, their second win over a top five side in the past four weeks.

After leading by 26 points at halftime the visitors broke the game open with five goals to one in the third term, giving them an unassailable lead.

Braybrook had too many options in attack with Stephen Mihelakos-James (five goals), Brandon Austin (three) and Harley Cameron (three) yet again causing problems for the opposition.

Zachary Papamihail was Albanvale’s best avenue to goal, kicking a season-high five majors, with Corey Hall and Zach Wilson the top performers for the home side.

North Footscray put an eight-point gap between them and West Footscray thanks to a seven-point road win over its rivals.

The 12.7 (79) to 10.12 (72) scoreline at the final siren was closer than it had been for much of the day with the Devils well in control for the first three quarters.

A visitors kicked a perfect 10 straight goals in the opening half, establishing a 32-point lead at the main break.

The margin stayed around that amount until the 14-minute mark of the final quarter with the Roosters nailing the last four goals of the game, reducing the deficit to give them a sniff at a late come-from-behind win.

But it wasn’t to be with North Footscray holding on to claim bagging rights for the second time this season.

Laverton tasted victory for the first time since May with a comprehensive 25.20 (170) to 8.2 (50) triumph away to Tarneit ending a six-game winless run.

The Magpies dominated from the outset piling on 16 first-half goals in a commanding start to the game.

With a season-best seven goals James Sadler was Laverton’s best along with Ethan Stankic.

Suns made it three straight wins as they defeated Western Rams by 85 points at Ian Cowie Recreation Reserve.

Despite an inaccurate start to the game and the visitors established a healthy buffer early before a seven-goal to one second quarter grew their advantage to 64 points at halftime.

The Rams got some scoreboard reward after the main break, but it was smooth sailing for Suns as Hamish Holmes finished with five goals and Patrick Hynes four in the 18.25 (133) to 6.12 (48) result.

Meanwhile, Wyndhamvale cruised past Sunshine Heights for the second time this season posting a 26.17 (173) to 7.4 (46) victory at home.

A seven-goal to zero opening quarter set up the win with the hosts stretching their lead at every opportunity.

Kai Capovilla and Jordan Mould were terrific for the Falcons, while Lewis Stanton had another day out kicking eight goals with captain Cameron Morrison contributing four.

Arian Sarandis was best-on for the Dragons, finishing as the only multiple goal kicker for the visitors with a pair of majors.
