BULLDOGS AND KANGAROOS SET FOR VFLW GRAND FINAL
Western suburbs rivals North Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs will be chasing their first VFLW premiership when they meet in the 2024 rebel VFLW Grand Final on Sunday.
North Melbourne finished this year’s home and away season fourth on the ladder to secure a VFLW finals berth for the first time.
The Kangaroos booked the first place in the Grand Final by thrashing Essendon at Arden Street Oval in the second elimination final before downing minor premier Williamstown at DSV Stadium by 18 points in the second semi-final.
The Western Bulldogs finished the home and away season in second spot and had to take the extended route to the Grand Final after losing to Williamstown in the qualifying final during the opening week of the post season.
The Bulldogs responded by beating reigning premier Port Melbourne at Mission Whitten Oval in the first semi-final before turning the tables on Williamstown in the preliminary final with a 44-point triumph at ETU Stadium.
The preliminary final win secured the Bulldogs their second VFLW Grand Final appearance after going down to Collingwood in the 2019 decider.
Ahead of Sunday’s game the WFNL wishes to congratulate both North Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs on reaching the 2024 rebel VFLW Grand Final, and acknowledge fellow western suburbs club Williamstown for their outstanding season reaching the preliminary final.
The WFNL is likely to have representation in the North Melbourne team with Mary Daw (Suns), as well as the Western Bulldogs with Stephanie Asciak (Caroline Springs) and Mary Sandral (Parkside Spurs).
