BULLDOGS CONSOLIDATE TOP 4 SPOT IN NAIDOC CLASH

By CONNOR PAIN

Point Cook used an eight goal to one third term to run away from Caroline Springs in their 36-point win that keeps them in second spot.

The blistering performance helped the Bulldogs cruise in the final term, rarely troubled in a dominant second half display.

The Lakers were on top early with Brian Lake and Rylan Williams making a big impact in the forward line, but as the home side got their hands on the ball the Bulldogs worked back into the game.

The contest turned hot with numerous off-ball incidents that included a report to Lake, but it was Point Cook who withstood the heat.

A seven-point Bulldogs lead at the first break was whittled down to five at the half, missed chances doomed the visitors who had their opportunities.

Clay Smith’s half time rev up worked wonders as Point Cook kicked eight straight after the Lakers got the first of the term, all but ending the game and showing the Bulldogs at their very best.

The home side couldn’t miss, in the end comfortably running away 17.7(109) to 11.7(73) winners.

Nicholas Buykx was best-on for Point Cook and Keenan O’Shea for Caroline Springs, both men receiving medals in celebration of NAIDOC Week.

The important win sets up a tantalising clash with Werribee Districts in Round 12 for Point Cook, while the Lakers face a second tough away game this time against Altona.

The Vikings overcame a slow first quarter to ease their way to a 17.9(111) to 8.11(59) victory against Hoppers Crossing.

Joel Menadue’s five goals helped his side crack 100+ points for the first time this season.

The Warriors fought hard in the loss but will be itching for a win this week in a possible relegation faceoff with Point Cook Centrals.

Werribee Districts were made to work hard in their 13.8(86) to 8.11(59) triumph over Yarraville Seddon Eagles.

Their undefeated run continues and doesn’t show signs of slowing down, Lachlan Rainbow and Joshua Mould each booting three majors in the 27-point win.

The loss all but ends the Eagles chances of finals ahead of a tough contest with Spotswood.

Shamus Tippett was Spotswood’s only multiple goal kicker (three goals) but it mattered little in the Woodsmen’s 23-point win against Point Cook Centrals.

The 8.13(61) to 5.8(38) win is their sixth in eight games and keeps them just percentage from fourth.
