CENTRALS, BULLDOGS WIN WOMEN IN SPORT PLAQUE

Off the back of Mother’s Day, Round 5 of the Victoria University Polytechnic Senior Women’s competition was all about celebrating ‘Women of the West in Sport’ — this weekend marking the second year of the WRFL’s Female Development Network.

The Division 1 and 2 Friday night games, played under lights, kicked off the celebrations with the winner of each receiving special plaque honouring the round.

Werribee Centrals hosted Yarraville Seddon at Galvin Park, with the home side in control of the game from start to finish, claiming a 36-point victory. NAB Leaguer Sierra Grieves was the only scoring outlet for the Eagles, kicking three goals; whilst Caitlin Vella registered a strong performance for the Centurions and was named amongst the best.

Over at Saltwater Reserve, Point Cook took on visitors Wyndhamvale, registering a dominant 61-point win over the Falcons. Angel Crean registered a best-on performance under pressure for the falcons and Tegan Hamilton fired for the Dogs, kicking five of their nine goals.

A drizzly Saturday morning saw Laverton play host to West Footscray, with the visitors locking in a 69-point victory. Meretiana Robinson was a force in the middle for the Magpies, whilst Rooster Emily Gillespie continued her goal-kicking form, kicking four, and was named in best.

To round out the weekend, Spotswood went head-to-head with rivals Hoppers Crossing, running over the Warriors by a 103-points. Wolves captain Caitlin Brennan starred for her side, bagging five goals, whilst Jade Murrell kicked the only major for the visitors.

After 5 rounds, Spotswood sit atop of the Division 1 ladder, and Point Cook Centrals are on top of Division 2.
