CENTRALS CLOSING THE GAP

Werribee Centrals coach Glenn Ballard believes his team is closing the gap on the higher ranked teams in the Victoria University Polytechnic Senior Women’s Division 1 competition.

He said the goal for his group is to continue to develop and improve each week, saying they key was for the team to believe in themselves.

“The season has been very competitive. All teams we have played and watched have improved, women’s football has come a long way,” Ballard said.

“The Centrals team development is huge. We just need to look back from when we first joined the competition, our points for and against back in in 2018 compared to 2021 is a great achievement.

“We would be one of the youngest teams not just in age, but in games played too, so the future is very bright at Werribee Centrals.

“Our numbers are great, and this is something the team the club and the supporters should be very excited about.”

Werribee Centrals will take on Hoppers Crossing in their first game back after the recent lockdown.

Ballard said the match was one he and the team had been looking forward to all season.

“Hoppers are a very well coached team and they have recruited well,” he said.

“The back six work well together, their midfielders just keep moving the ball forward and the forwards are big and can mark a footy. Although this is their first year, they are a team that we look at and say this is the level we need to get to.”

Werribee Centrals will host Hoppers Crossing at Galvin Park on Saturday at 5.45pm.
