2018 AFL Victoria – WRFL Coach of the Month – May 2018
Junior: Jarrod Pye (Altona Juniors) (Under 10)
Youth: Mara McSweeney (Flemington Juniors) & Nick Devereux (Sunshine FC) (Co-Coaches – Under 15 Division 2)
Senior: Darren Findlay (Point Cook Centrals) (Division 3 Seniors)
The AFL Victoria – WRFL “Coach of the Month” in the Junior, Youth and Senior Age Groups for May 2018 have been announced.
This award recognizes some of the great work being done by local coaches in the Western region community and reinforces the importance of good Coaching in local football, schools and Auskick.
Jarrod Pye (Altona Vikings)
Jarrod Pye is a coach that has been recognised by fellow coaches, administrators, parents and children from Altona Juniors. Jarrod’s communication skills have conveyed care and respect for his players and ensured their development and improvement is at the forefront of his coaching philosophy.
Mara McSweeney and Nick Devereux (Flemington Juniors and Sunshine)
Mara and Nick are the Co-Coaches for the Under 15 Flemington/Sunshine team, and they have created a smooth and cohesive team in combining both team’s players – they have adopted a learning approach to the group and the focus has been developing the players and encouraging them to enjoy the game. They have instilled each player with a sense of responsibility and have implemented a game plan document and nutritional programs to support the group!
Darren Findlay (Point Cook Centrals)
Darren Findlay has been able to galvanise the playing group at Point Cook Centrals and has taken his side from having only four wins in 2017 to six wins and one loss in 2018. Darren has also taken a whole club approach to his senior coaching role being involved in both the Junior club and Auskick Centre.
Congratulations Jarrod, Mara, Nick and Darren – very well deserved winners amongst a plethora of outstanding nominations.
All winning Coaches will receive an AFL Store Voucher for their efforts, and go in for nomination for the 2018 Coach of the Year.
