COBRAS COMMITTED IN 2021

Albanvale coach Andrew Bryson says despite not playing footy last year his team took great steps to ensure the culture and bond they formed in 2019 remained.

The Cobras fell short in the 2019 Division 3 Grand Final, ultimately losing to Glen Orden in the final game of the year.

Bryson says his team was committed to getting the best out of themselves and is looking forward to the first bounce of the 2021 season.

“As a club we believe we took a big step in rebuilding our culture in 2019 and continued to remain close throughout 2020,” he said.

“Our aim for this season, is to build on this and continue to grow as a club. On the field and as players, we are committed to getting the best out of each other and want to share success together.”

Bryson said the focus for this year’s pre-season was revisiting the game plan.

“After 18 months of no footy, we decided to include a lot of skill work and high intensity drills to fast-track our match fitness and decision making,” he said.

“To our players credit, the majority maintained a basic level of fitness which allowed us to focus on getting ourselves ‘match fit’ as we prepared for the season ahead.”

Albanvale’s first game is against North Sunshine at Dempster Park this Saturday.

Bryson said he missed being involved with footy over the past year and was looking forward to being around the club again.

“The heart of any football club is its people,” he said.

“Throughout 2020, I didn’t give the energy to missing footy as it was out of our control, but after sharing a very enjoyable 2019 together, I missed the players, the supporters, all of us sharing the season together working towards a goal.”

Albanvale’s Senior Women’s team has merged with Braybrook. Braybrook/Albanvale’s first game of the Victoria University Polytechnic Senior Women’s competition will be at 4.30pm on April 17 against North Sunshine at Dempster Park.
