
COBRAS SUFFER FIRST LOSS, BROOKERS BREAK THROUGH
Suns inflicted the first loss of the season on Albanvale, coming from behind to defeat the Cobras by 21 points in Round 4 of Division 2 Senior Men’s action.
The Suns trailed by 20 points after the opening stanza as the home team jumped out of the blocks with a seven first quarter majors.
However, Peter Tomelty and Patrick Hynes helped turn things around for the Suns as they slowly worked their way back into the contest.
Four-goals apiece in the third had Albanvale leading by six points with a quarter to play, however the momentum didn’t appear to be in favour of any one side.
But it was all one-way traffic in the last with the Suns adding four goals to none to claim a 14.18 (102) top 12.9 (81) victory.
Zachary Papamihail was Albanvale’s best, one of the five multiple goal kickers for the Cobras with a pair of majors.
Both clubs are involved in top five clashes this coming week with Suns (5th) hosting West Footscray (4th) with Albanvale (2nd) again at home taking on North Foostcray (3rd).
Braybrook registered its first win of the season easing past Tarneit away from home at Wooten Road Reserve.
The Brookers dominated the first three terms and led by an even 100 points with a quarter to play before triumphing 25.15 (165) to 5.7 (37).
Goal kicking veteran Jarrod Garth fired against the inexperienced Titans booting a whopping 14 goals while Jack Vivian kicked six for the second time in three weeks.
Tarneit was best served by Samuel Roberts and Connor Le Noury.
West Footscray produced an impressive display against Sunshine Heights downing the Dragons 22.12 (144) to 6.14 (68) at Skinner Reserve.
Another slow start by the Roosters and a five-goal opening term from visitors resulted in a 20-point difference at the first change.
But the Roosters completely outplayed their opponents from then on adding 20 goals to four over the next three quarters with Jonathan Stelluto and Dylan Appelby (six goals) playing key roles.
The Dragons didn’t help themselves kicking 4.9 after quarter time with the final margin handing West Footscray their biggest win of the season.
Jacob Poa again performed strongly for Sunshine Heights.
Wyndhamvale was again a class above their opposition claiming another hefty win, this time over Laverton on the back of notable showings from Damon Stephens and Tyler Tessari and 11 goals from Lewis Stanton.
The game was all but over at halftime with the Falcons leading 85 to 10 with the final score 21.17 (143) to 8.7 (55).
After a poor start the Magpies will take some positives from their second half as they added seven goals during the final two terms.
James Sadler contributed five of the eight majors for the visitors.
Meanwhile, North Footscray had no issues against Western Rams recording a 106-point victory away from home.
Matt Serafin followed up a seven-goal outing the previous week with six majors against the Rams as the Devils claimed their third win of the year 19.14 (128) to 3.4 (22).
William Markovski was the home team’s top performer.
