CRACKING FOOTY IN ROUND 15

By Kel Rowe

With just one more round of home and away footy to be played out in the VU Polytechnic Senior Women’s Competition, the race to Finals is well and truly on, and some cracking footy is on display.

Division 1 kicked off proceedings on Friday night, with another “Battle of the Bridge” taking place between suburban rivals Yarraville Seddon and Spotswood. The Wolves won by a comfortable 70-points, registered by 8 individual goal kickers. Sierra Greives was named best on ground for the Eagles, a fitting way to mark her 100th game milestone.

Werribee Centrals continued their run of success at their home fortress, under lights at Galvin Park, claiming a 31-point victory over Point Cook Centrals. Larissa Renaut was among the Centurion goal kickers, registering 3 majors and adding to her case for back-to-back Leading Goal Kicker nods. Mandy Seath and Sharni Currie hit the scoreboard for the Sharks, with the later also earning time in best.

On Saturday morning, the Division 2 teams copped the best of the day’s weather, with Braybrook hosting Caroline Springs, going down to the visitors by 119-points. Paige and Kaitlin Bojarowski fought hard for the Brookers, but their efforts were no match for the dominant Lakers, who boasted a huge 11 individual goal kickers.

The Laverton Magpies kept North Sunshine scoreless in their hit-out at TIV Oval, lodging a 61-point win. Summer Farley hit the scoreboard for 3 majors and teammate Mikayla Robinson was named amongst the best, whilst Vivian Lam was strong under pressure for the Roadrunners.

West Footscray and Point Cook rounded out the weekend’s fixture with a very wet and soggy battle on Shorten Reserve. Despite rainy conditions for much of the game, the Roosters continued their winning run — claiming their 9th straight victory — by 51-points.

Krystyn Raymundo (6) and Katherine Belcher (1) were the main contributors on the scoreboard for the Roosters, whilst Angel Pokora and Yasmen Roe were influential for the Doggies.
