DEVILS BEAT PREVIOUSLY UNDEFEATED FALCONS
North Footscray brought an end to Wyndhamvale’s unbeaten start to the season with a 22-point victory over the Falcons in Round 11 of the Division 2 Men’s season.
After a shock loss to Braybrook a week earlier the Devils rebounded at home with their best performance of the season defeating the league leaders 11.13 (79) to 8.9 (57).
A 4.6 to 2.3 opening quarter was North Footscray’s best of the day as they established a 15-point buffer at the first change and then maintained control for the rest of the game.
It was the first time Wyndhamvale has been held to under 86 points since the opening round of the season.
Adam Petrids delivered his best performance of 2025 with Kyle Rodgers and Barny Sianos (three goals) also influential for the home side.
The visitors were best served by Kai Capovilla and Oliver Brett who will be out to bounce back away to Laverton next time out.
Braybrook was unable to claim another top three scalp after conceding a 23-point head-start to West Footscray at Skinner Reserve with that being the fulltime margin.
With Jaycob Doyle and Jai Haines playing a key hand, the Roosters built on their early lead before the Brookers hit back late in the game through the efforts of Nathan and Corey Spackman.
A six-goal final quarter was a strong finish for Braybrook, but the visitors left their run to late with the home side triumphing 16.21 (117) to 15.4 (94).
The Roosters finished with five multiple goal kickers, while Brooker Stephen Mihelakos-James booted a season-best five goals.
Albanvale saw off a determined Tarneit to end a run of two losses, recording a 14.5 (89) to 9.9 (63) win at home.
The Cobras couldn’t miss early nailing six straight goals to start the game before the Titans finally got on the board and finished the term with three goals of their own.
The hosts led by 41 points at the main break and a game-high 53 points after adding the first two majors of the second half, before Tarneit finished the game with five of the last six goals.
Nathan Ranno and Jye Kotosk were Albanvale’s best while mid-season recruit Jackson Smith had another good day in front of goal with six majors.
There were more positives for Tarneit as Jacob Millar and Caleb Sciberras were named the top performers for the Titans.
A nine-goal to one opening half set up a 41-point triumph for Sunshine Heights away to Western Rams
A solid start by the visitors and some wayward goal kicking from the hosts saw the Dragons lead by 50 points at the main break.
The Rams hit back over the final two quarters kicking 10 of the 18 second half goals, but it wasn’t enough to trouble the opposition.
Wilson Hylton (six goals), Arian Sarandis (five) and Jackson Viola (four) all took advantage in attack for Sunshine Heights, the trio kicking all but two of their side’s goals in the 17.13 (115) to 11.8 (74) result.
A four-goal outing by Tyler Lewis and another strong showing from Ryan Tyson saw the pair named the Rams’ best.
Suns used a seven-goal second quarter to catapult them to a 17.12 (114) to 7.12 (54) win over Laverton.
The home team trailed by two points at quarter time before Matthew Wright and Josh Foster helped turn the hosts’ fortunes around as they took a 34-point lead into the main break.
Five final quarter goals helped extend the home team’s advantage at the final siren, the Suns ending the day with six multiple goal kickers with Blake Jago the best of them with three majors.
James Sadler was again lively up forward for Laverton kicking four goals to be his side’s best along with Fraser Johns.
