DISTRICTS TRIUMPHANT IN THRILLER

Werribee Districts have edged out a spirited Altona outfit by six-points at Keogh Homes Oval in the Under 18 Division 1 competition.

It was the Vikings in charge early, taking the contest right up to the league-leaders.

Altona booted four goals to two in the opening term, with Campbell Young posing a strong threat inside 50.

At quarter time, Districts coach Paul Atkinson put the challenge on his players to lift.

He implored his side to use their voice and to open up their forward line for more open ball movement inside 50.

Districts small forward Luke Di Mauro capitalised on this open forward line, slotting his second goal early in the second quarter.

However, a lovely running goal by William Naismith held the Districts at bay, with Altona taking a two-goal lead into the half.

The contest continued to heat up in the third, with both sides showing a strong aggression to win the football.

Vikings coach John Singeralla called for his men to replicate their third quarter attack at three quarter time, however, it was the Districts who came our firing.

Josh Puli dribbled home a nice goal in the opening minute, and Luke Di Mauro provided two goals in a row to hand Werribee the lead in the dying stages.

Di Mauro slotted five goals in a match-winning performance, while Brock Spiteri and Caleb Sciberras-Harris were among other strong contributors.

For the Vikings, Brodie Hicks and Billy Minett were valiant in defeat.

The Districts face Point Cook next week, who are fresh off a 80-point win against the Eagles, while the Vikings are up against the Lakers, who managed to hold off a courageous Spotswood by 21-points.

Yarraville face Hoppers Crossing, while the Woodsmen have the bye.
