TIV DIVISION 1 MEN: ROUND 3 REPORT

By Rod Carpenter

Caroline Springs def Yarraville Seddon

Caroline Springs produced a clinical Anzac Day performance, defeating Yarraville Seddon by 45 points to inflict the Eagles’ first loss of the TIV Division 1 Senior Men’s season.

Caroline Springs started the better of the two sides, taking control early with a 2.5 (17) to 1.3 (9) lead at quarter time. Their ability to create opportunities kept the pressure on, and they maintained a narrow advantage into the main break, leading 5.7 (37) to 4.8 (32) in an evenly matched first half.

The game shifted after halftime, with Caroline Springs lifting their intensity and efficiency going forward. A five goal third quarter saw them break the game open, extending their lead to 10.8 (68) to 6.10 (46) and putting Yarraville Seddon on the back foot.

From there, Caroline Springs finished strongly, adding another five goals in the final term to seal an impressive 15.9 (99) to 7.12 (54) victory. Steven Kyriazis was a key figure up forward, finishing with four goals, while Jesse Cavanagh added three in a strong supporting role. Their ability to convert chances proved crucial in building and maintaining the lead.

For Yarraville Seddon, Will Hoskin-Elliott and Spencer Wray both kicked two goals, but their side’s inaccuracy and inability to match Caroline Springs’ second-half surge proved costly.

Parkside def Newport

Parkside delivered a dominant display on Anzac Day, overpowering Newport by 89 points thanks to an impressive four-quarter performance.

From the outset, the home team set the tone with strong ball movement and forward pressure, racing to a 5.2 (32) to 1.3 (9) lead at quarter time. Their control around the contest continued into the second term, extending the margin to 9.3 (57) to 3.4 (22) at the main break.

Newport showed some resistance after halftime through the efforts of Hussein Kadour and Harrison Minett, but Parkside’s depth and class proved too strong. By three quarter time, the margin had grown to 12.10 (82) to 5.6 (36), with Parkside continuing to create consistent scoring opportunities.

The final term saw the home side finish emphatically, piling on eight goals to cap off an impressive 20.12 (132) to 6.7 (43) victory. Recruit Zachary Morris was outstanding up forward, finishing with five goals in a best on ground performance. He was well supported by Tom Condon with four goals and Luke Pupillo with three, as Parkside’s forward line proved difficult to contain.

It was a clinical and complete performance from the Magpies, showcasing their ability to dominate across all areas, while Newport was left to battle under sustained pressure throughout the contest.

Hoppers Crossing def by Werribee Districts

Werribee Districts have stamped their authority as the team to beat yet again, thanks to a commanding 41-point victory over Hoppers Crossing in a high-stakes Anzac Day clash.

In what loomed as a top of the table blockbuster, the opening term lived up to expectations, with both sides trading blows. Hoppers Crossing held a slender one-point lead at quarter time, but it was Werribee Districts who began to assert control in the second quarter. Their midfield lifted, and cleaner ball use going forward saw them take a nine-point advantage into the main break.

The third quarter proved pivotal, as Werribee Districts continued to build scoreboard pressure while restricting Hoppers Crossing’s opportunities. Despite a spirited effort the Warriors struggled to find the goals when it mattered as Sean Gregory stood tall to deny the hosts.

The final term belonged entirely to Werribee Districts, who blew the game open with a dominant display, piling on five goals to one. Their forward line proved too potent, led by a standout performance from Josh Mould, who finished with six goals in a match-winning effort.

Hoppers Crossing showed patches of resilience but were ultimately outclassed by a more polished and efficient Werribee Districts outfit. A positive for the Warriors was the return of Ashlin Brown who collected a game-high 36 disposals in his first appearance of the season.

Point Cook def Point Cook Centrals

Point Cook has claimed early bragging rights with a dominant 66-point victory over Point Cook Centrals in the first meeting between the neighbouring rivals this season.

The Bulldogs gained control early with sharp ball movement and some good scoreboard pressure with four goals in the opening term while restricting the Sharks to just two behinds. Point Cook’s control continued into the second quarter, where they extended the margin to 26 points at the main break, capitalising on cleaner entries and superior efficiency.

Any hope for the visitors was effectively shut down in the third term as Point Cook’s defensive structure stood tall with Point Cook Centrals limited to just a single behind while the hosts steadily building their own score to push the lead beyond six goals.

The final quarter turned into a showcase, with the Bulldogs breaking the game wide open. They slammed on six goals to underline their dominance across all areas of the ground. Leading the charge was Zayne Galea, who produced a best on ground performance with seven goals, proving unstoppable inside forward 50.

Cooper Langan was again a standout for Point Cook Centrals tallying 30 disposals and a goal for his side.

Albion def Sunshine

Albion have emerged victorious in a spirited Anzac Day clash with rivals Sunshine, holding off a fast-finishing Kangaroos outfit to secure a hard-fought 22-point win.

Albion came out firing in the opening term, their efficiency going forward saw them pile on five goals to take an early ascendancy, applying scoreboard pressure that Sunshine struggled to contain. By halftime, the Cats had extended their lead to 29 points, although inaccuracy in front of goal left the door slightly ajar.

Sunshine responded strongly after the main break, lifting their intensity and ball movement to produce a five-goal third quarter. Suddenly, the contest was alive, with Albion’s lead cut to just 23 points and shift in momentum. However, the home team steadied when it mattered most. Regaining composure in the final term, they matched Sunshine’s output and maintained control to ensure the result was never seriously threatened.

One of the stars for Albion was Daniel Rosenzweig, who delivered a match winning performance with six goals. His presence inside forward 50 proved decisive, consistently capitalising on opportunities.

Sunshine showed great resilience and fight, particularly in the second half with Ethan Sivijs and Steven Nabaki leading the way, but Albion’s strong start and ability to respond under pressure ultimately proved the difference in an entertaining contest.

Spotswood def Altona

Spotswood enjoyed a convincing Anzac Day win over Altona claiming victory by 62 points in a match defined by early dominance and sustained pressure.

The tone was set in the opening term, with Spotswood controlling territory and capitalising on their opportunities to open up a 16-point lead. Altona showed some resistance but struggled to convert, kicking three behinds and failing to find a major.

The second quarter proved decisive, as Spotswood jumped into action with five goals. Their ball movement was slick and efficient. While Altona managed to hit the scoreboard, their inaccuracy continued to hurt as the Woodsmen stretching the margin to 22 points by halftime.

After the main break, Spotswood maintained control, steadily building their lead through consistent forward entries. Despite kicking more behinds than goals in the third term, they kept Altona at arm’s length, restricting the Vikings’ scoring opportunities. The final quarter saw Spotswood finish strongly, piling on another five goals to seal an impressive win.

Harley Walshe was the standout up forward, booting six goals in a dominant display and proving a constant threat inside 50, while David Iaccarino found plenty of the ball. Patrick Balta and Altona battled hard but were ultimately outclassed by a sharper Spotswood team.
