DRAGONS DENY TITANS, ROOSTERS SURGE PAST SUNS

A brainstorming fourth quarter has helped West Foostcray chalk up its tenth win of the Division 2 season with a 14-point win over Suns in Round 14.

A tight first half had scores tied at 40-40 before the brilliant play of Matthew Wright contributed to the Suns establishing a 13-point buffer ahead of the final stanza.

However, it was all one-way traffic in the last with Chris Long helping to inspire a five goal to one final term to see the Roosters home 13.9 (87) to 10.13 (73).

Thomas Stelluto and Matthew Turcinovich both finished with three goals for West Footscray as did Wright and Hamish Holmes for the Suns.

Tarneit was denied a first win of the year with Sunshine Heights claiming a narrow three-point victory at Wootten Road Reserve.

The Titans led by two points at the main break and then after trailing by 14 points at the end of three quarters kicked the last three goals of the game.

But it wouldn’t be enough with the hosts falling just short of a drought breaking win, the Dragons holding on to triumph 8.13 (61) to 9.4 (58).

Jackson Viola kicked a game-high four goals for Sunshine Heights while Jayden Smithers and Jacob Millar were Tarneit’s best.

Braybrook made it three straight victories with a 13.9 (87) to 8.12 (60) road win over Laverton.

The Brookers gained the ascendency early and never relinquished control, all but securing the four points with a term to play thanks to a 55-point three quarter time lead.

Luke Ranno and Luke Zammit were influential for Braybrook with Brandon Austin and Jack Vivian each kicking three goals.

James Sadler was again Laverton’s most dangerous forward with three majors.

The win lifts Braybrook into fifth spot in place of Albanvale who dropped to sixth after falling to North Footscray.

For the second week in a row the second placed Devils didn’t miss a goal in the first half to set up their win over the Cobras.

After kicking 10 straight in the first two terms against West Footscray, David Battistella’s side bettered that against Albanvale registering 12.0 in an incredible display of accuracy across the opening half.

Jarrod Spry and Josh Crofton finished with season-best tallies of six and four goals respectively in the 19.8 (122) to 8.14 (62) victory at Hansen Reserve.

Jye Kotoski was Albanvale’s top performer.

Meanwhile, Wyndhamvale despite struggling in front of goal did more than enough to record a 11.22 (88) to 3.1 (19) triumph away to the Western Rams.

Nathan Griffiths and Alex Mackinnon led the charge for the Falcons as Lewis Stanton starred in attack with five goals.

The Rams were best served by captain Ryan Tyson and William Markovski.
